(It's a long read, but it's worth it.)COIL PROPULSION -
In the last part of the first decade of the new millennium, the US navy developed the first working and reliable rail gun, a type of projectile weapon which launched bolts of metal with rails of electromagnets.
This weapon cost an incredible amount of money and took up a good part of a warehouse full of electronic equipment… Needless to say, it was cumbersome.
The main setback was power. The electromagnets needed immense power to work. It seemed that this kind of propulsion was only viable in the naval arena as the large warships were already giant and had the room to hold this weapon. A more compact version would be needed for Army use and an even smaller and lighter design was required by the Air Force.
The United States Government sent a young engineer to work on it. Isaac Lazarus was sent to work. He had already had great success on his IL-22 Auto Sniper which utilized electromagnet rails to boost small caliber rounds in a normal ballistic weapon frame.
He went forward and took rails to the next level, combining them with the more condense coil technology that was also emerging. This, of course, was a moot point until a new japanese power source was developed. This power source was a recircuiting system which used cooler fusion technologies as well as a mechanism that collected and reused energy wasted in conduction. He developed the first useable and portable rail + coil gun which he titles the RaiCo 9mm. It was a simple handgun but gave it's users incredible range and piercing power and was almost completely silent.
This was the first in a long line of rail and coil guns developed by the armies of the world. Bullets became smaller and smaller and ammo payloads become greater and greater until a single user could sustainably fire rounds at a target at 500 RPM for three minutes straight.
There were still setbacks to global proliferation… The larger the projectile, the more energy it took to fire. . Missiles still remained ballistic as their guidance systems couldn't calculate fast enough to change their trajectory mid-flight. One of the biggest problems with the RaiCo line was that it effectively subdued less wealthy countries (The US and other larger superpowers always had greater large scale Weapons of Mass Destruction but what really turned the tide and created a large rift in how dangerous a nation could be was the small arms each soldier carried. No matter what shielding was used, nothing short of specialized alloys could completely stop the RaiCo's rounds. The weapons were so expensive and well guarded that black market suppliers couldn't get their hands on any. All weapons were designed to corrupt the battery, once activated, if a weekly maintenance maneuver wasn't completed. The rebel fighters who liberated any RaiCo systems were soon met with a messy end when they found out about this security measure.)
Fastforward… The Daemon plague came and went above and beyond in it's purpose of bringing civilization to it's knees.
RaiCo weapons have nearly all been forgotten and discarded. Most caused incredible destruction when their users were killed in action and no collection crew gathered and deactivated the units.
After the new regime of the UCC and the NUSA came into being there were waves of Hunters roaming the world, protecting the population in the interest of the United Coalition of Corporations. (without people there are no customers. without customers, there are no corporations.)
A new young man with the name of Lazarus Azimov came onto the radar of the NUSA and was lifted to top priority status rather quickly. He developed a new round specifically designed for the old RaiCo designs. It was a throwback to old ball pellets but slightly more complex. A small plastic ball with two chambers is filled with an explosive and it's catalyst. The ball is then encased in a semi-hard, magnetic metal. The pellets were called Riots. They were not designed to be extremely accurate and they were very small caliber… But when used in a rapid fire weapon, it could provide incredible deterrence and destruction power. The explosive rounds provided more of a punch and would also, with the right chemical combination, cause poisoning and corrosion.
One such weapon was the CLZ-27, otherwise known as the Crowd Controller. It fired from four barrels with direction randomizers each at a 15 degree field of fire. It was to be used with large groups of enemies and was incredibly effective.
The CLZ was outfitted with dull sawblades on the ends of the barrels to give a close range edge to the user. It was light enough to be carried in tandem with other weapons and regular users seemed to have different combinations that suited their abilities and comfort level. The most common companion to the CLZ line was a medium caliber RaiCOII small sidearm that generally carried the Ripper rounds.
In typical warfare, the Crowd Controller is as impractical as a scattershot shotgun due to it's wide range of fire and lack of a targeting system. But the people were not fighting the typical war. There were vast areas of land that weren't inhabited by Homo-sapiens, instead belonging to Homo-diabolus... The newly created species of humanity comprised of the mutated victims of the Daemon Virus... These creatures were violent and destructive and the Hunter's job was to eradicate them... The CLZ-27 fit the bill.
As territory was gained, bases of hunters sprouted up and the CLZ weaponry was converted to automated security turrets systems. This was easily done as Lazarus designed it with that in mind. The handle could be detached and a seven prong flashbolt plug could be attached. This allowed an automated system to have far more control over the weaponry which included the ability to turn the randomizers off. As a turret weapon, the CLZ line could vary between blanket destroyer or direct one-on-one sniping. The saws were kept to deter any Demons from attacking the barrels from the sides.

This is the CLZ - 27 as a manned portable unit. The basic operation goes as follows and is straight from Lazarus himself:
Step 1: P...push the little thingy on the top of the other thing. No, not that. The red thingy... The sliding red thingy! yea! that thing. Push it down and sl-slide it forw-forwa-f-for... slide it away from you.
Part 2: Point it at something you don't like... Like I would point it at that greasy bastard that's boink'in my ex girlfriend... well... she wasn't really my girlfriend. It was more like... well... she was... Alright so she was a hooker! I didn't even have sex with her! I just... sorta stalked her... so... what was I talking about? OH! yea. Point it at the fucker doing your ex...
addend-addendu-Section 3: Push the red trigger on the front of the hand-*WHIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR* OH SHIT! DUDE! I'M SO SORRY! Did it get you? Oh thank god... but, damn, look at your car... PFFFTHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA! yea, that thing's a wreck now.
Step D: Imma gonna pull the top red thingy back so it's locked and can't fire cause I should not be trusted with the things I make.
...
Sorry... Laz is a bit of an alcoholic.

I will upload a better render at a later date.
