The truth is always much deadlier than the fairy tales - mer people didn't going around saving hapless land people from drowning. This boy was not local or he'd have known that. No. Mer people were the last thing a captivated, naive human being saw before being dragged to a watery grave. One flick of his powerful tail and the boy would be lost to the surface forever. And he kept telling himself he would do it. Eventually. If he ever tired of gazing at this flawless, innocent face. Maybe humans had their own powers of captivation after all.
