Description
The city of shadows, or its official name Knifefall. Its only a name given to it by some bigoted, hypocritical, lying scumbag of a politician who got put in charge of the place a few years back... then again I guess by that description he was perfect for the job. He said it was. "A name to signify changes to a city of sin and murder." That's a laugh, the crime rate just keeps going up. The city would probably be better off if he wasn't paying every cheap cutthroat thug who cant tell the tip of their blade from the hilt to be his enforcers, old Scarhands actually didn't... poor bloke certainly was a bit off in the head.Anyway bet you're dying to know who you're talking to, well more listening to but that's beside the point. Anyway the names Roberto Erubere Levidas the eighth, but don't let the fancy name fool you, my family fell out of fortune a while back and used me to pay back some of their debts s a slave, so lets just keep things short and say things didn't end well for my "master" and I ditched the name, got a new one too, Edge.
I know, I know, roll your eyes if you want at the whole clichΓ© second name for a thief, but I wasn't gonna go round being called Roberto in a place like this, I'd be mugged, and or stabbed in seconds. I'm one of the lucky ones though, I'm not the only poor kid to come to Knifefall running from something, its a city for people to hide, and many people want to hide from nothing else but their past.
But fortunately for me I was the benefactor of the charity of Grey Hawkeyes... I can see from the look on your face you have no clue who I'm on about do you? Hawkeyes was maybe THE most wanted criminal for assassinations, thievery, extortion, getting on a whole load of rich folks bad sides... and a somewhat embarrassing incident involving a lack of clothes a few too many mugs of ale.
A little off topic there anyway, he took me in, taught me the tools of his trade... It was sort of odd to be honest, he normally wasn't known for his charity, anyway I ain't complaining, he was a harsh teacher and I have the scars to prove it, but he didn't give up on a useless brat like I was so he did have a nice side... though I wish he didn't trick me into copying his incident with the lack of clothes and ale.
After teaching me to get by he moved off to somewhere, and I haven't seen him since. Ever since I've been working to build a name for myself and signed up with the "non-existent" thieves guild and have been completing any and all contracts that come my way.
Anyway lately the contracts have been severely limited and I've had to work for several shady groups just to get food, these including the Knifefall Risers, the Bladehounds, the White wolves, (the white wolves where an OK bunch of Shriekhound enthusiasts) and finally the Bloodclaw. Those guys are freaking terrifying and the size of their organization dwarfs the others in comparison.
But the contract recession did bring me to a contract I would normally never consider, it was very vague about the owner of what I needed to steal, the money they would pay, and who sent out the contract. Three warning flags that would normally make me stay as far away from that contract as I would an angry Shriekhound, those enthusiasts where very descriptive about what they could do.
The contract did at least tell me what I was looking for, a lone knight hunting for something, it wouldn't be my first assassination, stealing from a dead man is still stealing, but I never killed anyone who didn't have any reason to be killed other than doing their job, so normally this would exempt knights from my list.
This guy though has my attention because of two reasons, first he is a knight who doesn't deserve to be one, and second is how he obtained the wealth to become a knight. Now you are up to speed though it seems I can continue to head to my rendezvous with our friendly knight.
Here I come, Ser Levidas the seventh...
