I found this nifty little ATLA art challenge www.deviantart.com/justdreamer… by a few years back... now I've finally decided to tackle it! (Of course, the days won't be literal "posting days" in my case--I'm planning on just uploading them in block the way I usually do, given the fact I'm not online here constantly, due to my chronic fatigue. Thank you all for understanding!)

Day 17: Episode that I can watch over and over again--The Avatar State

This one almost tied with "Tales of Ba-Sing-Se" for my favorite Book Two episode (which is saying a LOT), so I had to work it in here somewhere. In truth, "The Spirit World" is probably the episode I've watched more than any other, as I think I mentioned earlier--but I HAVE watched "The Avatar State" several times as well, thanks to its gorgeous settings and emotional conversations. It may not be AS cute or AS funny as the stories I usually prefer, but "The Avatar State" still somehow hits a lot of "sweet spots," to me--the beautiful cherry-blossom spa and mountain gazebo are places I wish I could go, the gaang standing up to General Fong is heartening to see, and Iroh crying to Zuko "I care about you!!"... oh my GOSH the feels.

I honestly don't understand why "The Avatar State" is so overlooked--I've never seen it in anybody's "Top Ten" list except my own, but personally, I find it a masterpiece. It's a huge turning point for both the gaang's and (especially) the Fire princes' stories, it has some really nice beat-for-beat parallels (example: Aang and Zuko both have a loved one--Katara and Iroh--pleading with them to "don't go through with this" in the evening, then face an ally-turned-foe the next morning), and as mentioned, it's visually gorgeous. It's also the first episode of Book Two, and you can TELL they were trying to "open with a bang."
