Description Doodles of Porky Minch (of the EarthBound series).
I was nervous about posting this because it might be out of character.
I imagine that Porky is the kinda guy who could easily kick the ass of one person bothering him, or two or three, but when confronted by a crowd of people against him, he becomes overwhelmed.
He'd solve this problem in Mother 3, of course.
I haven't gotten the chance to play Mother 2 or Mother 3 yet, so these doodles are sorta irrelevant to anything and consist of merely the filth my imagination conjures up based off of what I do know about the character (which is next to nothing).
Please don't spoil anything for me.

Wow those kids said some really mean things to Porky.
The one comment one anonymous kid says about Porky being held back is based off my own experience back when I was in elementary school. I was always much larger than all the other kids, so they assumed I was older and was held back, so they teased me for it. I was never held back, though. I was made-fun of for a rumor that wasn't true at all.
I will say most of these are inspired in-part by the cutesie version of Pokey that's been in this roleplay I've been partaking in.
But the bottom two I just did because Porky is so awesome when he's angry. Look at him yelling, it's so metal. There was gonna be a third doodle like that, but I screwed it up and gave-up.
My sister's scanner scanned each of these a little differently (I dunno why), so they're inconsistent (not to say they wouldn't be otherwise).

i find pokey minch a very interesting character, i love him i really find him cute *w*, i read somewhere that pokey is the personification of humanity, all his flaws and goals, and all he wanted was to be accepted...

Feathery-Wings In reply to Momoka123 [2014-05-07 18:24:43 +0000 UTC]

You know, I can see that. The way he gets jealous and wants to be the best, and how he tries to make things better but just makes them worse. Then, he doesn't even want to accept that he made them worse and pretends that he succeed because he doesn't want to admit to failure. He makes the world better for himself, disregarding the feelings of others, the same way humanity has developed a world that's fit for humans, but unfortunately at the cost of nature's integrity. Not to say that humanity has destroyed nature, lots of things actually flourish in the presence of humans. But, the way some things in nature are dependent on us... is that necessarily a good thing? I love humans, but humans have the tendency to forget how beautiful they can be and lose faith in themselves. Humans have music, dancing, art, the creativity and intelligence to invent, and an enormous capacity for compassion. It's a shame that they look the other way when some of the things they've done have left lingering negative effects, like pollution. We try our best, but we don't want to admit our mistakes, and they've grown so overwhelming that we just stand back and watch the fire we've started burn, until there's nothing left. It's a shame... because we can really be magnificent creatures if we tried a little harder...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Feathery-Wings In reply to Applehead1232 [2014-02-03 23:11:27 +0000 UTC]

I'm not really sure. Sometimes it just takes one bully, then the other kids want to follow that bully for their approval, then the more innocent kids will think they can impress the bully by bullying that particular victim, so they do, even though they don't morally agree with it. I remember a story my sister once told me where she was being bullied by this group of girls. One day my sister snapped and beat-up their ringleader, and the leader had to miss the next couple of days of school. The other girls in the group actually thanked my sister afterward stating that they were only friends with the ringleader out of pity, and were sorta stuck in the friendship. My sister didn't get into any trouble. I suppose bullying can even be caused by toxic relationships.
... although I think some reasons why I was bullied could have been my refusal to conform. I was once teased for being the only cat lover in class. I might've also been bullied for being terrible at sports (but that would have been even worse if I were a boy, I bet). Even though I was tall, I was also kinda chubby and wore glasses (still do), so I was sorta a typical bullied kid that just happened to be tall. Heheh.

Oh, wow, this gets personal (but in a good way that I've never told anyone yet).
When I was in elementary school feeling lonely, I finally came across my first real friend who would stick-up for me. For several years, she remained my only friend despite how mean I would be to her. I don't know why she stayed my friend, or why I was so mean to her. I was a really bitter person that hated everyone as a child, I wanted to take over the world and kill-off all of humanity. In that way, I find myself really relating with Pokey (although by the time I reached his age, I calmed down and began to love everything. heh). Unfortunately, my best friend was often bothered for being my friend, rumors were spread, we were harassed by groups of people at a time... honestly, she probably could have escaped all that if she just abandoned me as a friend. I don't know why she didn't... but I couldn't be more thankful for her. I wonder what kinda crazy psychopath I could have become if it weren't for her. heheheh

honestly,if i were one of those friends i would have hung in there, in my opinion friends can be mad sometimes but that doesn't mean there mad at you.

Feathery-Wings In reply to Applehead1232 [2014-02-05 04:01:11 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, ain't that the truth? If there's anything I've learned from friends, it's that they may be acting like they're specifically mad at you, and even if they make it obvious it's you, it still might not be you (as silly as that sounds).

There has been quite a lot of discussion about the motivations of Pokey recently in the fandom, as well as the extent of how much he can be blamed for the events in the series; and quite a few (including me) agree that it's possible he was bullied. Couple that with his dysfunctional family and it's not too hard to see why he ended up like he did; or why I think "Slaying the Dreamer" is his frigging theme song.

Ness was probably the only person who showed him some human decency. But then the whole Buzz-Buzz thing came along, which then separated them onto two sides, plus Giygas giving him all this power, it would seem he forgot all about that, and effectively tried to kill Ness and his friends.

And those comments by the kids... Oh God... The one telling him to die is the worst. I know I've had my own fair share of that (it ended up with me nearly leaving school).

That's one of the things I love about EarthBound: the fact that so much of it is left to our imagination.
I'd be surprised if Porky wasn't bullied, really.

Yeah, I'd rather someone tell someone to go get cancer than to commit suicide. It's the sickest thing anyone could wish upon someone. To go get killed by something is one thing, but specifically by suicide? That's screwed up, and I've heard kids say that before. Nothing gets much more foul.
Thanks for the long, thoughtful comment.

Yeah I can totally see this. Just from roleplaying Porky and running a blog and DA group about him, that seems to give people bad impressions about me. I notice any Porky content is treated differently in the fandom, that it's often passed up or ignored or even shunned in favor of other characters. It's no wonder Porky decided to be a douche-nozzle. I probably would be, too, if everyone was a shit to me XD

Yeah, I noticed that recently myself. I posted one doodle of Ninten that I barely tried on and it got 25 favorites easily, but my Porky fanart doesn't get love unless I add it to The-Pig-King , regardless of what other Mother groups its in.
Jeeze, Porky can't even get a break in reality. He's almost as depressing as Lucas (okay, maybe not that depressing, but what do I know?).

Awww! That's so precious! And, kinda ironic... Although it's not ironic when you think about it, considering we're sympathizing with a character that a lot of people hate due his actions, but he might not be such a bully if someone would just love him deeply and genuinely, or get him some psychological help. We're the cuddly, forgiving, empathetic ones, like Fluttershy.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GalenaLarkin In reply to Feathery-Wings [2014-02-02 18:20:00 +0000 UTC]

Well, I happen to like him because he is messed up XD And he probably could do with psychological help. I'm not qualified to diagnose mental disorders, but I'm allowed to make an educated guess, and my guess is that he has ASPD. A very difficult personality disorder with rather worrying diagnostic criteria, nearly all of which Porky fits. He's a beast, but it also wasn't right how he was treated as a kid. I have to give him credit for being motivated enough to get himself out of the situation. He certainly did (even if it meant stranding his father in a bar in Fourside XD)

I agree, there's almost no way he doesn't have ASPD.
