Love that you went with the 70's era mask design. I almost did the same thing, the original is such a pain to draw.

haha, Thanks man! Thought it would be fun to try drawing this mask(original mask or Earth2? I'm lost when it comes the DC-characters. ). It's not the fanciest look though, so next time I'm gonna go back to the beaked helmet. Way cooler!

Well, since you got me started.....Hawkman was Earth-2 up until Crisis on Infinite Earths in the 80s. Or wait, there was an Earth-1 Hawkman, right? See, this is why Hawkman was off-limits after Crisis. But yeah, the Earth-2 version wore that simplified mask in the 70s in All-Star Comics. The helmet is definitely more regal, but the mask is easier to draw (And less goofy, too).

haha, dang that's confusing! I went to Comicvine for some more info, but omg that's a complex character to get wraps on! Do you know which one is the original, the one you drew? Cheers man!

Mine's the original, who was retconned as being from Earth-2. Ready to have a headache? The general rule is that any character published in the 30s and 40s was part of Earth-2, while characters created in the 50s and 60s (Like Barry Allen, Hal Jordan, Ray Palmer, and the alien Hawkman Katar Hol) are from Earth-1. None of these Earths existed until the early 60s when Barry Allen met Jay Garrick - Rather than have Barry Allen just be a new Flash, they decided that no, the original Flash was from a parallel universe along with all their older heroes.

Ready to have more headaches? This worked in most cases because DC cancelled a lot of superhero books in the late 40s and 50s....Except Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. So these characters and all their supporting characters were considered to be from Earth-1, even though they were among some of the first to be published and should be on Earth-2. So in Earth-2, which ages in real time, there were older versions of these characters who showed up in the 60s. It was also decided that from a certain issue moving forward of each Superman/Batman/WW book, they were now on Earth-1 instead of Earth-2.

So after Crisis on Infinite Earths, this meant that all the Earth-1 characters had only been around for 5-10 years before 1986, while the Earth-2 characters had been around since WWII. This means that even though Superman was technically the first superhero ever created and published, he burst into the world of DC Comics decades after the JSA were around even though he was in the JSA pre-Crisis.

And DC has had continuity issues ever since, all because they had to put Jay Garrick in another universe.

haha, DC messed up! Big cheers man, this made things a lot clearer!  (I wonder what will happen when they decide to move around characters next time since the new 52. )
