Description
Using Omnimo 4Made a similar layout like last time, with a couple of different panels. Also added some extras like the clock and the sidebar, wondering if I should include it in Omnimo in the next update.
What do you think?
P.S. Did you know that in Omnimo 4 you can customize the color of each panel individually? It's true! Just open the style gallery and select individual panel color.

Looks perfect, even similar to the concept of the future OS.

I know you said you were gonna add some things to Omnimo from this, but according to Omnimo 4 info, you can already make it look and function like this - how do I do that if it didn't prompt me to choose like it says it will, and it's default like the style that Omnimo 3 had, when I tried that? I'm gonna try to hide the taskbar and make it function like a full on Tablet OS, if possible. I prefer that over the boring form factor. If I can't do that... any chance I could request you make a feature for Omnimo to do that for me, so I can use it like a Tablet OS and not have to use the design and form factor of Windows 7 repetitive aspect please?

Umm, you need to install it properly, first of all. After the language selection screen there is a theme selector complete with resolutions: [link]

I got it installed properly, I just re-installed it and noticed it was there before, the screen where I set the resolution, above it shows it... but I didn't know I could select those. It just completely went past my sight, so I looked again and there it was right in front of my face lol

If its part of the skin, with the next version can you make the gmail widget accept non @gmail.com addresses? (I use GMail with my domain, which is now a fully fledged google account)

I think it's possible to just edit the ini file with notepad and ad your domain, instead of mail.google.com

Interesting.. Just a suggestion, make it so that if you press a button on the keyboard or something it shows your desktop and doing the same action brings it back up (just like in windows 8)? I'm not sure how you'd do this, but I'm sure it is possible.

This looks great, is that basically how Windows 8 will look? Is that black thing on the side, the new taskbar? If it's what I think it is, then it's about time somebody innovated on designing Windows OS's... because we've had the same form factor for so many years now.

fediaFedia In reply to iareruss [2011-06-16 19:04:27 +0000 UTC]
That's how the start screen will look, and there is no taskbar there, it's fullscreen. That sidebar will actually show on mouseover in windows 8 and offer some options.

Interesting, but does the main desktop look EXACTLY the same as Windows 7 pretty much? If it does, then that's not much innovation. I'd love to see something like your screenshot, for an OS design, without the same form factor as every OS has, but apparently most people that develop things like that wanna stay with what's familiar, and I can understand why - but we need innovation.

From watching that, when it it showed the taskbar and desktop a few times, it looked a lot like Windows 7, just with a few new features, not much at all really. It makes it seem like they're putting a Tablet OS on TOP of Windows 7, and calling it OS 8. But I can't say for sure that's what they're doing because I don't know, they haven't released enough info, or a way for me to test it out myself.

Windows 8 being a skin over Windows 7 is a common misconception. Along with the new file system, GPU acceleration, and major improvement of stock applications, Windows 8 will also be changing the explorer. The explorer will now run on the ribbon UI which should create a more organized experience and there also is a Aero Lite theme in the works that should mimic the Metro UI found in the start screen. Some other reasons to upgrade would be the speed upgrades which allow for much lower system specifications and support for all the new applications that will be written for Windows that are to be written in HTML5 and Javascript.

The Windows 8 Tablet interface is for tablets (I know it's weird brrr)
Windows 8 will bring a new file system, Software accelleration for system graphics (DWM), hopefully a partially recoded OS, easier integration with web applications and social networks, the Computer UI will always be there, cause this is a transitional OS, to get the best from both worlds. (Touch and Classic Input)
Anyway there is more than a year of developing to be done , and right now with milestone 3, it's kinda normal that Windows 8 look under the "mask" exactly like Windows 7.
Vista and Windows 7 are really similar to the eye, but they run extremely different on the same machine, it's far more important what you can't see into an OS that what you see.
Go check out Windows 8 now with some Milestone build and let it dual boot, they say it boot in 10 seconds, never tried, but hell if I want to, just waiting public beta.

I don't even think I'll give a try. It isn't innovation, it's taking a Tablet OS and putting it over Windows 7, basically. I am tired of the same formfactor. I'll stick with what I got, and make it look and function the way I think it should. I'm just always want to innovate when it comes to things that I enjoy using everyday. I don't mean to negative.
