I love your work, hilarious poke at JW!

*SPOILER ALERT* *THIS IS A TAKE ON PART OF THE FILM, NOT AN INSULT TO ANYONE HERE, I AM A VORE FAN MYSELF* Now, for how I felt the film handled this and an overall darker take on it: I felt sorry for her, damn, think about it; Having pterodons trying to rip you in half and then getting swallowed whole would NOT be fun.Β Jurassic Park is famous for its sense of karma, but what the hell? She wasn't paying close attention to the boys, but what she also didn't do was know that a genetically-modified killing machine was running amok in the park. Zara was introduced just to be Mosasaur food. It's comedic to us, but in reality, her death was probably the worst death in the JP franchise. Her death felt very out-of-place and over-the-top. Then again, maybe more of this surfaced just because I hate seeing anything that could be tied to Vore (Which I just happen to be into) on media of this scale. The awkwardness of seeing it on-screen was well, awkward. Either way, RIP Zara.Β

I was in some discussions on this topic on various sites. I agree in terms of being a deserved death it was not. That being said, the dinosaurs are not there to fulfil karma in that sense. They basically need to eat. Her death was tragic as she was an innocent person as most people in the park. Yes... she does not deserve it but it was one of those moments where things just happened.

As for the ''bad'' guy... a raptor killed him. Remember how Dr Grant says Raptors kill their prey? So technically he died worst. But yeah... it was a death they could have saved for some evil person. But maybe... she was not evil or anything, she just was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I can get what you're saying, and you're right. However, think about Mr. Muldoon's death: He died with some class. It was a respectful killing of a good man, so no one thinks of it in the way Vic Hoskins died. Even if they technically died the same way, a clever quote and begging for mercy are two very different things. Eddie got a degree of respect in his death because he was saving his friends, but he is pretty much forgotten afterwards. Zara is completely forgotten. Sure, she was not heroic but you don't just give a death like that for an innocent who, from the movie, has a name, has a job, has some dialogue and has a fiancee. You're right about the animals though and you've changed my thoughts about Eddie's death.

Mr Muldoon never supported the Raptors being made in the first place. He also did whatever he could do to protect Ellie before realizing the trap set. Again, the Raptors are not thinking what he did, what he is doing... as far as they are concerned. Prey... lure him. FEED. Vic Hoskins, well, the Raptors detested him from day one, not to mention they set their eyes on what they want to eat. That being said, he had good intentions, but he lacked empathy for a lot of things, even the dinosaurs. Thus he was dubbed the "bad guy". Of course, that being said, like Zara, nobody deserves to die, not even Hoskins. There was also that guy in JP1, Dennis Nedry. In a sense, his stupidity is why he dies. You can say he deserves his death in that sense. Karmically though, he was bounded to it!

Eddie of course, was a hero. He could have stayed in the trees, but he went down to help when the T Rexes left. Like Zara, he does not deserve his end to be as gruesome, but the T Rexes don't care. Everyone in that area were responsible for the hurt infant.

In the ending of JP2, do you remember when Ian said, "So, when the parent T Rex sees us with her baby, won't she be like, "YOU!?" Instincts take over dinosaurs first. So poor Eddie and Zara yes, but it doesn't really matter what they deserve at that point. Doesn't change that Eddie was a hero though. Zara, well, was it that she was not a hero or did she just not get an opportunity to act?

Though, Eddie in my opinion died easier than Zara... though I guess it is up for debate? He was ripped apart, pain, yes... immediate death though. Zara, I keep pondering what must have unfolded. Swallowed whole. Then how long does it take for her to pass?

I guess we can say, the movie gets points for unpredictability. In that innocent people got hurt.

If we are applying karmic laws, we can think about Hindu philosophy too. Perhaps in that context, Zara did nothing to deserve her faith. Perhaps in a previous existence she did something, and had to pay in this life. So, I guess we can argue that.

All of the above, 100% true, but to keep this debate alive, Hoskins and his intentions. You could try and argue that he had good intentions, but he knew what the Indominus Rex was capable of. He, for the most part, was aware that something tragic could happen and that a multitude of people could get killed. As head of security, he only focused on taking the raptors and "testing" them against the ultimate killing machine, the genetic hybrid that only he and Dr. Wu had full knowledge of. They didn't know that it could hide its thermal signature, but they knew that they had created a deadly biological weapon. Anything that this creature did was on them, and, sure enough it killed many people and moreso indirectly. If Vic was TRULY worried about the people in the area, he would've had better security on the Indominus to begin with. John Hammond, on the other hand, was genuinely concerned about the people in the original park, he truly did have the best of intentions, going further in the second movie by wanting the new ecosystem of Isla Sorna left in isolation under constant protection. You could say that Simon Masrani died trying to save everyone, but you could also say his death was to give Vic Hoskins full command. If you think about it, the elimination of the person in charge was part of his plan. Further proof of this of Simon's interference with Vic's plan is when he CLEARLY states that, "Raptors will not be let loose on this island" If Vic truly wanted his boss safe he would have at least sent more air and/or land vehicles along with him.

Artistofnoart In reply to endofan2000 [2015-06-23 23:57:43 +0000 UTC]

That slipped my mind. Yes, even Masrani asked Dr Wu, "What good does a dinosaur that could camouflage serve our park?" Dr. Wu also had no care that people were endangered and even to the end, Hoskins still wanted to carry on the plan and make another Indominus except half the size. Well, he has good intentions in terms of using them as military personnel, but yes, he used the Park as a testing site. So in that regard, yeah not really the best of intentions. Perhaps a good idea for the military, but evil intentions otherwise.

Hammond definitely had his concern, and it transferred over to the dinosaurs as well in the second.Β

Masrani, yes, he did try to make amends, but I still feel a bit angry that he did not warn the Park. Indeed though, he thought he could have controlled the situation and did not, but as you said, he did. He did not want to turn the place into a battleground, nor have other animals involved in the mix. But I suppose it was not seen as an immediate threat initially. But when Masrani saw further lives lost he changed his mind. So yes, I guess he deserves credit!

It is interesting though, when you consider. There is a fine line between good intentions and bad intentions. It is of course clear in the case of Dr. Wu and Hoskins. Also, Newman from the first one. He stole from the park, and decided to shut down the power. It's hard to feel sorry for him! So I guess reflecting back on Zara, and Eddie, they were just casualties. Again, using hindu philosophy, maybe they had a past karma and that was how they had to repent. So again, not feeling as strongly about it anymore!

True, but I think Zara fulfilled a red shirt role.
I didn't see the movie myself so I had no idea how this film was faring in comparison to Jurassic Park, but that film did balance whimsy and a dark satire of the free market.

True, you could easily say Eddie Carr from JP2 was not deserving of his way of going out, which makes me wonder: If we got to know Zara more, would the audience feel the same way? I mean the answer to that question is obvious, yes, but from what we saw in the movie already Zara was in no way a villain, just a bit irresponsible. (Which normally, in a theme park full of safeguards for the regular dinosaurs would not be a problem) She seemed genuinely concerned on the phone when talking to Claire about how the boys were missing. If she was shown as a stuck-up snob who only cares about her job, her death could have fit better.Β

endofan2000 In reply to FeedFancier [2015-06-20 06:08:32 +0000 UTC]

Well, that's just it. We got the feeling she would be from the trailers, but the movie shows nothing about her personality-wise. I've only gathered that she's on her phone very often, she's somewhat irresponsible and disinterested, she's not too social. Her face is unchanging, so she's even harder to read. What she does that is note-worthy would be two things: Telling the boys to run during the incoming Pterodon attack (Not really saving from the Pterodons but warning, a basic "RUN!"), and sounding concerned about the disappearance of the boys over the phone with Claire. I'll watch the movie again sometime and gather up some more details on her if I can.

EDIT: I now know that she was rude/controlling when refusing to let her fiancee have a bachelor party, there's SOMETHING I suppose.

Nothing is truly wrong with her not wanting her husband to have a bachelor party!!

Controlling or not, she has her rights as his fiancee too!

As for their remnants, I do wonder what remnants. Eddie would be eaten, and Zara... well, swallowed whole. I know she will die, but I do wonder if the body will decompose with the gastric acid too.

RIP Eddie Carr, the only true protagonist in The Lost World.

RIP Zara Young, the beautiful, innocent, soon-to-be-married albeit oblivious babysitter.

I'll request that their remnants are buried somewhere nice.
