Have you tried doing it double the resolution then scaling it down?

I just tried that... its a little better but not as smooth as I'd like

A better way to go about this is to actually just zoom in to 200% while inking.

*checks*.........Nope. round brush. Size 2 or 3. 100 opacity. 100 density. 100 hardness. 1 Step in PaintShop Pro erm...7.2 i think.. on a white background with black line
