Chihiro and Spirited away in general is another favorite not just from Miyazaki's movies but an all time fav. The meaning of it (at least what I read online) kinda creeped me out but it's a great way to express it and a great movie all in all!

I didn't read anything about the meaning, I have my own interpretation and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna like more my own than other interpretations... so I prefer not taking the risk of reading other (alleged) meanings

I just wanted to watch the movie without finding any meaning until one day a friend shoved it on my face overexcited that our favorite movie had a social meaning it kinda ruins the fun...

Well... in a way I interpreted the movie as a ritual of passage of Chihiro, so I guess I wasn't that far for the (apparently) real meaning of the movie. Still, I think that the movie has many layers, some of them mythopoetic or just surreal, so the author of that article could be right, but I don't think the whole movie stands alone over that unique concept. In any case, it was an interesting reading. Thank you for the link!
