Description Hey guys,

requested a pic of my lightbox setup, so here it is

It's made out of just a simple cardboard box, with the top, left and right sides cut out.

A sheet of (clean) white paper is placed into the box, curving up the back wall so as not to show ugly corners when taking the photo. This white paper should go all the way up the back wall and the floor.

Tissue paper or toilet paper can be used to cover up the cut-out sides. Don't worry if you get minor rips and tears, it won't show up too much on the photo The reason for the tissue paper is so that the light hits it and disperses evenly throughout the lightbox.

When you're finally taking the photos, do it out in sunlight. You'd be surprised how bright it actually is outside! ^The top-lefthand picture is what the original picture may look like.^

After you've taken the photos, upload them to your computer and open them in a program like iPhoto or Photoshop. Here you can crop the photo and adjust the brightness (exposure) until the background goes almost perfectly white. ^I have used a current WIP to show before and after editing shots (bottom-left).^ Be aware, however, that if you're photographing something white it may be difficult to distinguish the object from the background...

And there you have it. If you're using iPhoto and the photo still doesn't look great after adjusting the exposure, have a fiddle around with the other functions (definition is a good one). Hope you got something out of this (I expect to see some damn fine looking pictures soon )

great idea but i was wondering does the sun have to be really bright or can you use a lamp or something

It's best when the sun is bright, but not totally necessary. If possible always use the sun, as natural light seems to work far better than any artificial light-sources.

Building one incase my 'Hama' mini photo studio thing doesn't work. May I ask you 2 questions:
1 - How come that moc doesn't have it's own display page yet? It's cool
2 - I'm insipired by your work like this to try it out myself. Could you comment on my attempts when I post the results?

The Genie is out of the bottle!

So that's how it done... I've tried something like that before, yet didn't end well ><

I should try that method out.

Currently building one like this... The angle of the sun may cause trouble up here in the north, but we'll see.

I suggest F33-X be a titan-sized mecha.

Looks cool so far, though.

Normally most MOC'ist don't blend those two shades of yellow because it doesn't look all that great but it that last pic the colors look almost the same? It's messing with my mind dude >_<

Felix-El-Gato In reply to Sparkytron [2012-04-05 09:20:58 +0000 UTC]

I was reluctant to blend the two shades of yellow, yes, but in the end I didn't have enough keetorange pieces to make a full MOC ;-;

Heehe, you can thank my editing for that

Thank you so much. I've always hated how the pictures I take turn out, but was never able to figure out how to fix that. I probably could have put a bit more effort into it, but still... This is something anybody could do, and I definitely know how I'm going to spend a few minutes making tomorrow.

One question though. It looks like you placed more than one sheet of paper inside the box. Is that the case, or is the sheet extra large?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Felix-El-Gato In reply to ckmcAspiringAuthor [2012-04-03 06:39:24 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome! The paper in the box was originally from a huge roll of paper (about 100m long), so I got to trim it to just the size I wanted. A3 paper should do the trick in most cases, though.

ckmcAspiringAuthor In reply to Felix-El-Gato [2012-04-03 16:28:53 +0000 UTC]

Wow, that is huge! Thanks for the help, now I should be able to find paper that will do the trick.

Upper arms need some bulking up(obviously); try switching out the bley socket connectors on the hands, with keetorange ones. His mid and lower torso need some bulk also. As for his 'facecrotch', please find a way to cover that up; it looks REALLY awkward.
