And think of wings like your arm. You have one bone down to the elbow that can go up, down, forward, back. Then another bone that has a similar range, and then your wrist which is the last joint for the wing. From hear the feather splay out like your fingers do on your hand, the thumb being the longest full feather that provides balance and strength to the wing stroke.

Wings are a difficult thing to prosper in. If you want to learn more I'd go and search up images of wings. Be specific and look for either predator wings or more docile birds. The wing of the humming birds are my favorite though.
