OMG! YOU ARE AMAZING AT DRAWING! I can't ever get the hair right, but I find it impossible to make him look ugly, no matter what his hair's like! (and yes, I searched 'david tennant' *sighs*)

This is absolutely brilliant! I love the way you drew it. I think, however, that you made the face a little too short lengthwise, but it gave him a more youthful appearance (which isn't a bad thing, not at all). So, not the perfect likeness, but you did an amazing job with that mechanical pencil!

any tips for drawing realistic mouths?
everytime i draw a mouth it ends up looking terribly wrong

Hmm. Well, I guess the first rule I use is never to draw an entire outline of a mouth unless it is a woman wearing lipstick. I think mouths are entirely made up of shadows, except for the opening. The opening of the mouth is where the darkest shadowing will be. There will usually behave a darker shadow where the bottom lip meets your chin.
I would say to start with a line that kind of curves down in the middle, and then shadow in the lips above and below it.
I taught myself how to do mouths by following shadows. Look closely at the mouths I have drawn and try to copy them. No one is watching, feel free to mess up. You will get it right eventually.
Heck, I haven't gotten it right yet, but close enough for non-photorealism.

This is a great drawing. Very realistic - almost certainly the best-proportioned of the sketches of him that I've come across in my time on dA, especially his face as I'm not quite as fond of how the clothes came out. How you did the hair is definitely my favorite.

Thank you so much. I did this before really bothering to pay attention to clothing at all. Clothing is less of an afterthought for me now though. The hair is in my typical scribbling style. I've never been able to do realistic hair, so I just make it us as I go along.
Thanks so much for the wonderful comment.

wish I could have been there. one guy I know was a huge fan. he put a blue LED and a speaker into a little light so when you turn it on it looks and sounds like a sonic screwdriver... lol

Do you think it's good or not cos usually people who draw this well don't think it's any good and we're sorta left here going
