What's going on today? We gotta break away!
We got a problem and
I think it's going to make us go down.
They think we're all the same
And always we're to blame
For shit I think is lame
It's time to stop the game
I think it's time to pay for everything you made me say.
What's going on today?
Why must it be this way?
We're going nowhere and
We're still knocking the need to bow down
They think we're all the same
And always we're to blame
For shit I think is lame
It's time to stop the game
I think it's time to pay for everything you made me say...
Music Monopoly? One corporation owns the 5 major video channels in the U.S. Is that okay?
Last year, the big 5 record labels sold about $25 billion of music. 90% of releases on a major label do not make a profit.
Britney Spears' last video cost $1,000,000. This Korn video cost $150,000. You have now seen $48,000 worth of video.
The music 'industry' releases 100 songs per week.
Only 4 songs are added to the average radio 'playlist' each week. Hit songs on Top 40 are often repeated over 100 times per week. Is that all you want to hear?
Two radio conglomerates control 42% of listeners.
90% of all singles get to the 'hook' within 20 seconds. 98 % of all #1 singles are less than 3 minutes and 30 seconds long. Does this seem like a formula to you?
Yes. The crew is saying the pure truth, damn straight. Just take a look around. Everything, I repeat everything is just and only for MONEY. All the tvs are racing to get more and more watchers, and throw all the crap on them to fill their head with stupidness. I don't watch TV at all, besides cartoons and channels like national geograpic or so. These are the only ones that are still the same. How sad, even music is for money.
You get the TV on - what is there? Reality shows, talk shows, talent shows, and all the other kind of shows. Or anything which can catch the eye and mind of the crowd. Anything what can make stupid people even more stupider. Click the music channel - Just the same clips, with no idea, or creativity. ( Respect to the exception, as Hungarians say.) Just turn on the radio - only the 'famous' songs, just played repeatedly, over and over again
Hey you stupid tv stations, and you commercial channels, who feed the people with all the crap. Hey you music channels and radios, who don't care about what is the fashion and famous thing... so, you want to eat, to feed? You all want a single? NOW YOU GOT ONE. RIGHT TO YOUR FACES.
I have been thinking a lot about this whole thing a lot. And I guess these things, in a way, are not bad. See, the famous people have to live from something, too. And the workers of TVs, channels, radios so do have too. That society needs boring and stupid stuff. See, what would happen if there were no boring music? Then the GOOD music would be overplayed, and we would get bored of the GOOD music. Can you get it? Now, the people who wants to be famous, rich and loved - they sing, they release CDs, the people buy the CDs - the star is happy, because she/he reached what she or he wanted, the record labels are happy, they have hell a lot of money, the radios and music channels are happy, because there is something to play... so, at the end everyone's happy. Or almost everyone.
See, I don't want to change the world, and break this balance. I don't want to ban or delete any kind of music which I think it sucks. I don't want to tear up or burn down the local CD shop (which I actually love, because of the fantastic atmosphere and lovely attendants). You don't have to wathc the TV, and listen to the radio, if you don't want to. That's democracy. But the fact is that there are not one of music channels which plays clips older than half a year. That's why you can't see great videos of the not-too-far past, like Freak On A Leash if KoRn is mentioned, which is one of the best videos I've ever seen, apart from that I'm a fan or not. And, the only one thing where I am able to watch the video of one of the greatest songs ever, Smells Like Teen Spirit from Nirvana, is a thing of '90's videos on MTV. I just ask WHY? As far as I know, there are no rock radio stations at all at Hungary, and that's true of every other kind of music. Seriously, is this a real choice?
And not KoRn is the first one who is realizing this. It's getting to be realized everywhere. Maybe mostly at the field of rap... like, I can remember, Eminem didn't made a video for his latest own single 'Business' just for all that. Just to mention an example.
Shhh... listen, there's something in the air. The chilly, cold wind of change. There's the smell of a revolution in the air. Can you feel it?
The point of this picture have been said above. I haven't seen the video yet. This is how I imagine it. Well, not exactly, but it's about it. I have worked for a whole day on this... no I think more than a day. At first I want to say that this is the weak, crappy copy of the original. Though it doesn't seem to be a big work even not in the 'real life' this crappy scanner killed all the little details what I have worked for long hours for. Hm... the only things I am proud of are the band members - I had a hard work with them, and they came out good...maybe except for Munky, please forgive me; but I have no really good pictures of him (all I could rely on was the 'Scrapbook' inside of Take A Look In The Mirror)... and I'm pretty proud of the background for a reason, because I can't draw buildings, even not almost-perspectivicals like that.
Well... I hope that was all I wanted to say. An annoyingly long description and a lot of meaning (which is NOT coming from me... it's coming from real life) attached to a poor, weak, crappy drawing. Years later, one day I should do this with paint, in canvas or so. Just to live up to the meaning of it.
What the hell are you waiting for?! JOIN US. If you dare.
Pencils, hell a lot of pencils. Finished 12th of April, 2004. Enjoy.
If you haven't read this description you have seen NOTHING.
Ps. I think you should full view this and look at this drawing for a minute...otherwise you won't understand and it will be a big mess for your eye.

at first i want to say thank you, for reading all that stuff...
and i'm glad you liked it, although i wrote it like 3 years ago, and you know, it feels a kind of strange - i mean it feels like its not even me who wrote it...
its also an interesting idea that people would like to pay for that shit that i write down here. honestly thank you, that was a very unusual(positively) compliment and you can have it all for free
and even more if i get my ass (in)to deviantart for real again...
enormous pockets are good. so are cd players. i have one on my own too, and although i also have an mp3 player i still use it very often. i think there's a certain feeling of a cd, listening to it... that mp3 players are not able to make up for. you know while i like to buy original cds, i can rarely afford them, but this made buying a cd a very special event... a ceremony. and you know, holding an original cd in your hands, with all that artwork and stuff, a cd that you collected your money for, that you made sacrifice for... and putting it into a cd player and listen to it.... theres nothing like that in the world.

yeah....i have my ipod with most of the songs i like, but i still love my cds. except for the face that i go through about 2 pairs of heaphones a month and my cd player of three years' heaphone jack is so stripped that i have to hold the headphones in a certain place to listen.....which makes totally rocking out a bit hard to do......but yeah, its just a bit akward having your pocket poke out like a certain.....unmentionable something....in public.
but other than that....(whic they are MINOR annoyances) i would rate my sexy cd player much higher that any ipod or mp3 could ever go.

i don't wanna be pessimistic, but i don't think sumthing's gonna change... i mean, since the beginning of the nineties, the situation is like that and get worse years by years.
Because of commercialism, only the richest or most famous bands or singer are still here. And i'm sorry to tell that, KoRn is no exception. (i really like that band , i swear. i think they're makin hell of a good music) but as soon as you get caught by the music industry, being a commercial band is unavoidable...
it's not koRn's fault, it's not any of the "commercial" bands fault. It's all those people in those big company who are making a lot of merchandising based on a band who work well. The big companies KNOW where the money are, and they're jumpin on it.
That's why there's always the same stuff on the radios. Radios play the songs that people likes the most, they're not crazy. They play the song which make them sure they'll get a lot of listeners (and because a majority of people like shitty things, radios play shit.)
I leave in France, and a fucking mass of dumb artists (why the hell do i say artist. They sing crap.) are existing, and they are LOVED by the majority of people. So, we keep on hearing them on the radios or we their videos on tv... and the formula works. a lot. how come we only hear pop on the radio ? because a majority of people like pop music. Lots of people have different taste bout music, so it's hard to have an objective judgement.
But the problem is, artists don't make music anymore. they make something that can be reproduced, sold... Of course, lots of artists still make music because they love to. But the company doesn't care about quality nowadays. It could be a song with farts or vomits noise for example, as long as people enjoy it, the company would still sell it. For instance, a famous Model, Karen Mulder, is now making """music"""... and the company sell that crap because they KNOW that people will buy it.
Because of that, lots of good artist who would deserve to be known are fighting but they'll never be signed in a label because the big producers are not sure of their success.
But i digress. yeah, i was saying, i think this situation isn't gonna change, because it's like that since years and people don't like to change. Moreover, companies are too powerful to let such a revolution happen. And a lot of artists won't let that happen. Because if it happens, it mean less money.
everything's about money, we live in a greedy world and it ain't gonna change because of a single released by KoRn. and i'm sure that lots of people are even laughing at that song because they think KoRn is hypocritical to make a single bout that, because they are part of that system. We all are part of that system. And the smell of revolution you mentionned will soon be masked by the smell of money and power...
Bleh. people are too stuck in the habit to change sumthin. So am I, so is everybody. There's too many probleme in that world anywayz.
Great pic. interesting coloring but too bad you left the backgroud all white.

Whoa, I'm seriously amazed. That's like the longest, and probably the most senseful comment I've got so far. I'm sorry, really sorry for my delay, but I went away for some days, and I was behind the too many messages and all stuff.. >< sorry.
Heh, you are not pessimistic, you are just realistic. I know probably nothing is going to change, and not even because of a song. Probably the monopoly is too strong and the commercialism will draw everyone and everything in like a giant hoover... probably already did. BUT. You know; if there is one, only ONE person in the whole entire world, a little freak kid who hears the song and stops for a moment and says: 'Damn it... this is just too damn true.' and what's more the idea gets stuck in one's head and draws a picture about the whole thing... it worth everything; and there is STILL hope. Everything HUGE begins with something very very small. You know, the biggest revolution of the Hungarians all began with a poem... and a poet. Because this poet was brave enough to step ahead... And you know what... can I go ahead even more... for example, there are a couple of people who share this way of thinking and decide that once they will be musicians they will make good and real music... and who knows, they may will do it... and might they get a bit of fame and they can show and share different things in music... you know what I am thinking about? for example, as you have said, there are a lot of great musicians, artists who are totally unknown. And they deserve to be known... I just have discovered a few of those, thanks to my friends... you know I'm just wondering that there should be a radio station what INTRODUCES unknown bands... and the people have the chance to discover good music... just only ONE station... and ONLY one channel that plays older clips too, and NOT only just what is famous!! BUT THEY ARE CLOSE MINDED. and all the people seem to take all the bullcrap they get. But if there are just a few people... just a few, who take this seriously... and care about NOT JUST money... there IS HOPE. Might there will be a few people who form bands which will make music again. And if there are a lot of those the labels will have no choice... and if there will be a label who care about NOT only money, they get released and... might one day there will be radios and tv channels like those I have explained... you know what I mean? There is only a lot of ifs and maybes, but there is hope.
Yeah, I totally can get you with that commercial thing. I always hear that the KoRn fans (yes the SO CALLED KORN FANS) keep on repeating that KoRn is a sellout. But what is sellout? To me, it's a band who don't care if they make crap music, they just sell stuff and all. But KoRn is NOT like that. they make music because they fricken enjoy and they express themselves through it. They put emotions into it, and they are one of the few bands who STILL take music Yeah sure they care about money, who is who doesn't? But this is NOT the main thing. Of course labels don't care about quality: then the musicians have to.
For a reason, while I was reading this, something crossed my head... You know, there is a band called Coal Chamber, I don't know if you've ever heard about them. They are a seriously heavy band. I mean very heavy. BUT they are good. (These are two words that I almost NEVER use together, you should know; so this says something...) They are not famous. Not really, yet they deserve to be. Anyways; once I've read something what they said. It was about that they don't want to be one of those bands who are trying to be so satanic or anything so ridiculously, twist the 'kids' mind, they don't want to 'use them' and fill their head with satanic messages. The singer told he wants to 'give them the wings of metal to fly'. He says, 'sure, I care about record sales, but not if I have to exploit my fans to get them.' And I saw on their main page that the singer, after their latest album (it was long time ago) sent a -very very kind and thankful- message to the site to all of the fans for buying their album. They have sold pretty much of that one; about 80,000 if I can remember well??... So afterall, compared to more famous bands it's absolutely not much, but still... This way of thinking simply amazed me. This is a great example for every musician and what more people should follow....
There are so many crap in every country, so this is not just yours - this is totally the same here in Hungary. What the hell, well most of people like it. Whatever. You know, all this stuff wouldn't mean that all the crap have to be kicked out. That would break a balance, and as I have explained in the description, this society needs bad music. And because it would be just an other kind of dictature instead of what we have now. But there should be democracy. To have a chance. To discover, to get to know DIFFERENT music. Like, I mean, if you want to listen to the radio, but you like rock music you can't because radio stations DON'T play rock. If there would be ONE, ONLY ONE, it would be extremely popular. Because those who like rock, they would listen to it. But I have talked about this once...
You know I think things like radios and tv channels' job WOULD BE that got to introduce different things to people, and sharing. NOT feeding that with crap. You know, the best way would be: if you want to eat crap, you can get crap. But if you want something GOOD, you CAN get it TOO. this is what I mean by chance. And democracy.
Of course a song by a band won't change anything. BUT KoRn have shown the way their way of thinking. And the word has been spread... that's it. And here we go. Yes, people don't want to change. Some of them are just used to things they live in, some of them are just afraid of changes, like me. But I'm not afraid to tell my opinion.
Ooooh, man... what the hell I have talked about... you know I wish I was so good at English, or you were a Hungarian and all stuff, I probably could explain myself better. I'm no good at explaining or connecting thoughts generally. there are so many different things in my head at the moment and I think I haven't written down like the half of it, but this is no matter anyways. well afterall thank you for 'wasting' some minutes on telling your opinion to me. Most of people wouldn't do that. because they think it's a waste of time... oh well, I don't think so, but they know.
Heh heh, thank you very much. Hmm the background... I don't know I might was just too lazy, but I think that supposed to be like when the whole sky is grey because of clouds. I know I still should have done something... but oh well... *shrugs*

There are two main reasons why that video haven't been played:
one. KoRn are not a 'famous' band (thank goodness!!), and they are in the border between 'acceptable' and 'disturbing' (for the SOCIETY I mean) so MTV doesn't play their clips more than two or three times each, at all.
two. The video get banned (AH YES! TRUE STORY, they REALLY think that they CAN SHUT us up and kill our REVOLUTION)

IN the Vid, Theyre trashing a CD shop, using bats and pulling downs the racks and stomping on the cds and stuff. You can go to korn.com and download it, thats where i first saw it ;D
DAMN YOU! i cant draw human noses and make them look as good as that ;;;;
YOU MADE HEAD REALLY HOT ;;;; and Fieldy too ;o;
Feildy's Finger bosrd looks really long.. But thats ok
I LOVE THE GIRL WITH tEH MOHAWK! shes rocks

Aww thank you very much!
Yes I have heard a couple of things about the video ... thank you for the info
I'm going to watch it now ^^
heey! I have problems with noses too... sooo hard to draw... they sometimes piss me off
Yeah, Head is the hotness I worked with him pretty hard, and my fangirlyness helped me a lot to do him
Fieldy is one of my favourite parts on the picture... and Jonathan... and Munky and David; arrrghg#@% what to say ALL of the members!!
I know Fieldy's finger is soo long but I didn't change it because it fits him so cool and see, you NEED long fingers like that if you want to play basses THAT well!! Actually I don't know why am I thinking that
that's absolutely not logical, but somehow I think bassists have long fingers! XP
That punk girl is a REAL person in fact... I saw her pretty often in the streets... She has a hair like no one in the whole town... and I think she's going to the school where I will go after primary school I'm going to draw her if I see her again, and post it here ^^
Haha Monopoly... no no you said it totally right!! Though, I don't think that they meant the game
I don't know who the hell Jessica Simpson is... but KORN IS BETTER ANYWAY. THEY ARE THE BEST
thank you so much for the favourite

Good mother of fucking god, that is AWESOME!!!!!! The video's nothing like it, the video could actually be as GOOD as this! The rough style of the drawing suits it perfectly, not crappy by any means, and I recognized all the band members in the span of 1/2 a second- great stuff, getst he mssg across very nicely indeed
