I agree with what you say. But don't forget to add something: calling Asperger's a "gift" is even bigger ignorance that just not being aware of it's existence

ok, sorry for being too agressive. But it just asperger's didn't bring me ANYTHING positive at all, it ruined my life actually. Nor does the DSM- V list any positive sides of Asperger's syndrome.

And if there're any gifted people with Asperger's, all this means is they were gifted because of their natural talents. Not because of their sickness

I'm autistic myself and I get a lot of mean comments on youtube calling me because of this and my obsessions along with above all other things calling me just because I don't have a job. Hey...the world isn't going to end if i say I don't have a job so why complain about that.

Well let me put it like this. . .

Disband all expectations of humanity an mercy. Youtube i filled with mask wearing kids that have no reason to not mock you for the fun of it.

Worry of someone is carrying there real name rather then a screen name, then things get more legit.

Still i would not count there opinions as anything serious as far as world opinions go.

They will hate you for anything you do, even if you do well you will be a try-hard.
Earning money will make you a sell-out.

So do not worry about them, worry about yourself and immediate surroundings.

Seen it, i fail to understand the reasoning of autism use there.

Common relatable jokes are,  being extremely patient to the point is silliness for projects.

And sometimes being slightly ocd about things.

I don't really see those as insults.

But 4chan uses it as general insults for frustrated or angry people.

Never expected 4chan to have any sense of logic or sense though.

Try not to take them to seriously.

They take 4chan extremely serious, as well as video games being training programs for mass murderers and rock being a instruction manual to Satan worship.

If you ignorant about then be glad, they make you want to rip out your hair, invent a miracle hair growth and rip it out again.

Sadly they have quite a viewer base from what I understand.

A lot even taking serious consideration of what they say.

I often find myself debating the fox viewers and hearing the same short sighted radical claims fox news produces.

When talking about legalizing a substance they start yelling we can't because we should not sell it to children.

Because age restriction is a strange and scary concept to them.

They have a lot to hate, but more then being angry I am worried for the poor souls brainwashed by the propaganda machine.

And the large amount of hatred they spawn in foreign relations.

I don't understand why people say things like "because so-and-so is autistic, they'll never be able to experience/enjoy (insert thing here)". Not all things that neurotypicals enjoy/rely on are pleasant sounding... Small talk is useless and a waste of time(I was watching a tv show called Going Ape, and it said that people who want to impress a boss would usually ignore other employees(this was demonstrated in a study) usually by not engaging in any small-talk whatsoever and being aloof to everyone except the person you are trying to please, and one of the researchers(who was obviously neurotypical) referred to it as "rude" when it's actually a logical thing to do. Autistic people like me do that all the time(focusing on doing your job instead of socializing), and as demonstrated in the show, neurotypicals will do that whenever they want to impress an authority figure. If you are trying to get a position in, it is more logical to please the boss than it is to please other employees because the boss is the only person who can give you the job.). Eye contact gets really boring after a while(I wanna look at other things).  It's ok for kids to play with toys by lining them up in rows or sorting them(it's fun for some reason, and children play with toys FOR FUN).  Most of the things that neurotypicals think of as either fun or boring are really subjective.  Also I don't see any neurotypicals going around saying "I'm neurotypical and proud of it! Being neurotypical is a gift!" even though they have every right to do so. That would imply that being neurotypical isn't nearly as wonderful as people claim it is.

Actually in some ways autism is a gift. People who range on the scale of autism see the world in a different way. This can be visually, sound related (and I think the last one is patterns). I like to look at a autism from both sides of the spectrum, sure it can be bad, but also good in a way to.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Osakadows In reply to olokp [2013-07-07 09:16:18 +0000 UTC]

Let me weight it down, ups and downs

+A different world view, like nobody else
+Fantasy to last for days
+Raise intelligence.
+Government support

-Almost nobody shares my world-view, can't discuss without stepping on toes.
-Cant control my amazing fantasy.
-Unable to communicate
-Can not get employed because i get overloaded
-Unable to hold a relationship, still able to love and wanting of one. . .
-Hard time controlling a physical conversation, only logically aware of rules of conversation.
-Dependant on others to balance life.

Autism is a gift at a great price, a gift that returns more problems then it gives.
Perhaps someone with mild autism can call it something nice. But once shit gets real the benefits get dull fast.

Of course you can, and I love you for replying.

It is nice to get something other then comments of those whom either don't have autism or have it so lightly they do not truly bare the negative sides.

Or of course those whom adapted and think everyone else can adapt as well.

I don't mind a positive mind-set, but praising such a illness is like saying aids is great since you loose a lot of weight.

And chemo saves a lot on the hair gem and soap.

I hope you are handling your autism well though.

If you ever need a listening ear don't hesitate to note me.

Nemo-TV-Champion In reply to Osakadows [2013-09-02 15:54:19 +0000 UTC]

Pretty much, I tried going through the comments but.. I got tired last night XD  People really don't recognize how it affects others negatively.  I really can't stand when people say they are PROUD to have it or that it's a gift, cause to me that is bullshit.

In the beginning the doctors thought I would never be able to talk and would have to go to a "special" school, I proved them wrong on both those (via intense speech therapy).  But school, school was an everlasting nightmare from elementary until the end of High School.  Because it was just bullying, and when it wasn't bullying it was being shunned by all of my peers.  Even in high school right behind my back people would call me names in whispery tones, thinking I couldn't hear them but I could.  So when I graduated I was happy to be free of that hell.  College was nervewracking at first, but at least the students and peers were nicer.  Oh and driving... that made me so nervous it took me til I was 18 to get my license.  Relationships uh.. yeah they are hard to keep, though the breakups were always on the other person's end (except 1 where the other person was emotionally abusive).  And goooosh sensory issues, like listening to whispers are more like normal speaking level to me so I had above average hearing, making anything loud (vaccum cleaner, fire alarms) physically painful.

It did have a couple "perks" like being allowed extra time on tests and quizzes and going to a different room if it'd help you focus better.  But, that's pretty much it  Gosh..I sound kinda like a pessimist I'm sorry.

As for how I'm handling it... it's... okay but some days it just has me in a hole.

It's good to vent every now and then, and belief me when I say I completely understand how you feel on this.

I have endured similar problems and issues adapting to the tense social requirements posed when I was a teenager.

To the point where I broke down and was unable to finish my education.

Also it is always odd to see someone going through similar issues as with lack of peers on my level I often start wondering if it just me.

With all the so called perks some like to promote, those seem hollow to me since I have nobody to share them with.

I am often to intellectually advanced that I would enjoy a topic nobody can even consider, thus having to settle for a simplistic subject of little interest.

So I can hardly call you a pessimist when you bring forth valid points that just happen to be negative.

If you ever feel as you said "In a hole" you are always free to contact me.

Perhaps it will do some good talking to someone whom had similar difficulties in life.

Oh gosh the teenage years.. they just have even more pressure than normal I think.  Like with "dances", teams, and clubs was never in any of those.  Do you mind me asking what happened to make you unable to finish school?  Break downs.. I typically have those when I get over-stressed, something goes wrong, or something's out of place.

"With all the so called perks some like to promote, those seem hollow to me since I have nobody to share them with." This gets you a GOLD STAR  Intellectually... I was a lil above average, not advance cause I knew I would not be able to handle all the extra work.

But geez, thank you so much ;w; <3

Osakadows In reply to Nemo-TV-Champion [2013-09-02 18:38:23 +0000 UTC]

The breakdown happened after being put into a class with 40 other students, needless to say my inability to adapt to the norm left me a nice target.

So I was exposed to 2-3 years of constant harassment and treads and general tension with classmates.

In the end I was unable to process the constant abuse and melted down into something bordering a unrecoverable psychosis.

Needless to say it left some old scars preventing for returning to the world of academics, effectively destroying my dream of becoming a scientist or high intellectual profession.

I started out with simply put a inferior intelligence not even understanding the basic of things, unable to understand basic conversation rules(motions, eye contact etc) nor having any knowledge of anything towards schooling.

But I also spent hours watching science programming and playing/reading anything science fiction related from quite a young age.

So after time my intelligence grew noticeably to the point where I enjoy a good debate or mind breaking paradox more then what the people around me do.

Also thank you for the gold star, I am very glad you agreed with me so, something all to rare.

Can not say it was easy, but I can at least say in the end I endured it and it fundamentally changed me a person.

For the lesser or the better how ever is anyone's guess.

And no the large class was during technical learning like wood work and metal working.

So it was a unorganized class allowing them freedom to approach me at will without arousing suspicion.

Needless to day, another 3-4 years later after about 6 other students got mentally pushed off a cliff they since adapted the system, seems I was the first of a small chain.

Strangely enough I am not all that upset about it.

For all the pain that it caused it opened my eyes to some parts of humanity I would not accept prior.

It possibly made me a better man in the end.

however if people do want to be all negative, you should limit how much you say to those who dont as its unfair to them to be told pretty down and possibly insultive things.
