Description
Finally! The big masterplan was finished. In case you're wondering, yes, that is steel, and yes, it took a bloody long time between me and a friend who wishes to become a smith to get this finished. But there he is: Griffith from Berserk, in all his megalomanic glory.Helmet - most work. The top still needs revisal, which will happen after the con. Upper beak consists of two plates, lower beak of three, skullcap of three, neck parts of thinner (1 mm instead of 1,5mm) steel. Inside is lined with leather, connections with steel bolts and leather straps.
Breast plate - front and back piece, strapped together with leather. You seriously need a squire to get into this outfit. Both pieces out of one part. Check the added photo's at the bottom for the gracefully curved backpiece.
Leg plate - five parts plus steel bolts and leather straps. This also hangs from a belt, and should be fastened to the breast piece from there (but that's a much needed modification).
Shoulder plate - not easily visible, since they are covered with fabric sporting the hawk sigil. Which, by the way, were a pain to paint on there. The shoulder pieces consist of pieces for the shoulder, upper arm, and elbow.
Shirt - same fabric as the shoulder piece covering, you see the ends coming out from under the breast plate. Underneath the plate it sports red ribboned fastening, as the character likes to wear it.
Pants - dark purple fabric, tailored to fit snugly. Glad this worked out, for I'd never made pants before.
Cap - underneath a helmet one should wear a cap (that is, if you actually wish to wear it, which I did). This one's purple like the pants, and works to keep your wig in place as you take the helmet off again.
Wig - I got a long white one from a friend who didn't need it anymore, cut it, dyed it very light blue, and combed it. Looked quite real, as far as white hair goes.
Behelit - Still had this from my previous attempt in 2003, and quite some people asked whether I'd thought of that salient detail. At which point I'd of course smile, fish the pendant from underneath the breastplate, and ask whether they meant 'this little lucky charm'.
Boots and gloves - boots I had, gloves I bought. I'm not insane enough to attempt to sew gloves.
I wore this outfit at the Dutch Abunai 2008 convention in Zwolle.

The armor was made with forge-less smithing; beating heated steel plates. 1,5 to 1mm plate is slightly thinner than plate worn in past ages is, but was used because it's easier to craft and carry.

Ik doe waarschijnlijk een tweede poging op acon. Was behoorlijk ziek deze abunai, en heb dus minder rondgelopen dan ik had gewild. Spot-de-Fenko

You really were my hero for wearing this!
I'm still working on finishing my Gattsu cosplay for a convention in the near future, most likely Abunai 2009 [since Animecon won't allow big props, and obviously the Dragonslayer is gonna be pre~tty big. xD]
It's good to know the Berserk love is still going in Holland. Hope to see you again at other conventions!

Beautiful and amazing that you did this with steel. He was always my favourite from the series.

Thanks for your kind words!
Steel was really the only way to go. Berserk's been my favourite series for a long time now, so the perfectionist in me wouldn't settle for less. Plus I've always wanted a plate mail. *grin*

It's very awesome that you kept with the original material, the helmet is just amazing. No matter what you do with armor unless its made of metal it never does look 'real', so this was a treat to see.
