These are the kind of Splash Woman fan works that I prefer. You make her cute, attractive, and realistically humanoid without blatantly stripping her naked and excercising rule 34 all over the place and generally ruining the character. It's okay to make her look vulnerable and femenine, but that doesn't require or justify porn of her. Restraint is a virtue.
Yes, she's a robot, but she was built for the purpose of being a rescue swimmer. This requires that she is going to have to do a lot of work herself, as well as be in contact with people. I assume she's something of a lifeguard, so she would have to be able to bring people onto the shore somehow, right? That would be damn hard without legs. So, she might as well be able to come out of the tail, and looking cute to humans makes her job easier.
And besides, how the heck is she supposed to go to karaoke parties if she can't put on a nice dress?

The anal-retentive geek side of me keeps complaining about how there probably isn't anything under her armour, considering she's a robot and that's more than likely her skin. Underneath would just be hydraulics and wiring.
But I tell that side to shut up because I still enjoy this picture. Very well done. Excellent shading, linework, and emotion shown. She sure is a cutie here without the metal coating. And, of course, how the picture is more than just a regular old pose. It tells enough of a tale while still leaving the viewer enough to draw his own conclusions as to what happened and what's happening.
Nothing much to say about the background, but it works well enough, considering how many people usually detest doing any sort of background anyways.
