Description
Legend has it that the merrow is the male analogue to a mermaid. In general he is presented as a monster with the head of a predatory fish and looks very deterrent. Therefore I had the idea of altering that image, just leaving little hints to the original form like a battlesome dorsal spine or a crown of horns. So itΒ΄s a rather nice merman, donΒ΄t you think?Although this picture (done in 2003) as my whole gallery is damn old meanwhile, since I have given up drawing several years ago (still amazed at any visitors here), hereby a supplement of owed credits to Brian Froud / Alan Lee: pose and basic idea is based on their book "Elfen, Goblins und Spukgestalten". Their merrow is, however, a real monster, for my merrow I claim that he is a "little bit" less disgusting.

Interesting image work, but don't you think you should credit artist Alan Lee for using his artwork as a base for your drawing? I can see this is directly based on his Merrow drawing from the 25th Anniversary Edition FAERIES book. Alan Lee drew all the artwork for this book, and the merrow was one of them. Here's the image from Alan Lee's page:

I understand you "Altered" the appearance from the original to make a more "pretty" merman, but the pose and tail match Alan Lee's artwork, so you should credit the original artist.

Oh, I've seen this before! I suspect you're an epilogue artist! I really like the stylization of this piece.

Thanks very much! *is happy*
I only got three pictures positioned at epilogue till now, so "artist" seems a little bit exaggerated. Call my " free-time scribbler", that fits better. ^_~
But IΒ΄m there, thatΒ΄s right, and "merrow" is one of my pictures there (my first one at epilogue).
