White, misty sky behind leafless lilacs.
Black, elastic tassels flowing in the gentle breeze.
We Came As Romans playing through my earphones.

Sitting here in my computer chair, wrapped up in my blanket.
My nose stuffed and my throat sore.
"My love, my love."

Looking out the window, the air, it's like gaseous ice.
Birds flutter East.
"This is my deepest dream, this is how I show you my love."

The pale light shining through onto the window sill.
The opened, snack-sized container of Pringles.
The black Epiphone glazed silver.
"This is a poison everyone knows.
Created and cured by the same, and it will flow."

I remember the times I spent with them.
The fun we had, the secrets we shared.
That gray tank in the back yard... that brown horse.
I don't think negatively of any of it.
I just wish those times would come back.
"Destroyed the crutches that I built myself, that I once thought were sound."

Sitting here in my computer chair, wrapped up in my blanket.
My bare chest showing through the folds.

I think of those promises that I made.
I remember all the times that I broke them.
My scarred hands, why do I do this?
My teeth feel rotted from the gummy worms I ate last night.
I'm still confused... why not?

However badly I want it, I can't.
I'm slipping, and I know it.
I need to stay strong.
