Description
Nr. 3 in the BZPRPG-character paintings, sketched some time ago, painted over the last 2 weeks, on and off. (20 days between deviations is just too long. I really need to step it up I think.) Coming up with a design for her was pretty complicated, since I wanted to keep the brutal Piraka look, but bring out that she is female. Went through several concept-sketches before accidentally coming up with this design. Also it was immense fun to paint the stormy water, I really thought that'd be more difficult.
Rhow is a female Skakdi warrior, hailing from Zakaz. She woke up on Mata Nui after a shipwreck, with no recollection of the journey that brought her there, but she remembers home.
For months, she lived like a savage, using her primal nature to hunt and kill prey, to survive. Only when she accidentally stumbled across the scene of a battle between several heroes and Rahkshi did she realize there was more going on on the Island than she initially thought. Since then, she has been travelling with another Skakdi. Finding out that the Makuta is responsible for the state of the island, Rhow resolved to unite as many of her kind as possible to bring the master of shadows down.
He has it coming. After all you don't screw up the most barbaric species in the universe without getting paid back.

im pretty sure i read somewhere the piraka were corrupted or mutated while the original race was a bit more normal looking.

not just the Piraka,
all of the Skakdi race was corrupted by experiments performed on them by Makuta Spiriah
so yeah, i see your point

Rhow probably fled from the island Zakaz before Makuta Spiriah started his experiments, thereby saving her from those creepy crooked smiles...

i love this, it definitely inspires me to tweak the design of my own Piraka character Keia. except, IMO i couldn't tell it was a female Skakdi by just looking at her so if u plan on drawing her more (which would b awesome) i might suggest tweaking her a little further (I'm definitely not saying give her a tiny waste, big butt, and size K boobs but like maybe make the hands a little less squared and define the curve of her body a TAD more)
other than that, the perspective, detail, and coloring is freaking awesome

Great drawing. I really wish i could draw this well, but alas, I can't. Ah well, it's still great. I like that feeling you give, making it seem that the armour and body are seperate...the black part on the leg looks like a wetsuit, almost.
Also, Veef, just so you know...
BZP was here.

Oh my... I'm an the verge of true speachlessness. That pose, for starters, is just gorgeous. Very three-dimensional, shows off an excellent amount of detail and is menacing as all heck. And that background.... I can almost feel the cold night air and hear the waves, every hat I own is off to you. You could honestly make a living painting murals for churches or something, you do such amazing work. Her design is magnficent too, every little bit feels like it should exist, I can even tell how she would move. Huge fan of those wrists, that's my favourite kind of spherical joint. Really love her face, it's so hard to draw a Skakdi with its mouth closed and look decent.

Ha, awesome, really appreciate the kind words!
Since I am planning on making a living off this stuff, you can bet I will improve and continue to deliver more awesomeness.
And amen on closed Skakdi-mouths. I went through 5 or six concept-sketches before I accidentally came up with her pose ^^

nice one, das wasser gefällt mir gut... finde aber du könntest in deinen Bildern ruhig noch mehr Farbnuancen verwenden um mehr Spannung zu erzeugen, statt immer..
In der Beleuchtung zum Beispiel

Statt immer...? Bin mir nicht ganz sicher was du meinst.

It is definitely easier to get used to than it is to get down the whol hand-eye coordination for regular tablets like the Intuos, though both are very good products. It'll feel a little strange at first, but being able to paint directly on a monitor is very comfortable for me personally. What I would suggest is to look for a specialized retailer in your area and see if you can't try the Cintiq out first, that's what I did.

Thanks a bunch!

VF! Why you so good?!
I'll probably give a more detailed review once BZP comes back, but this is great.
I really love the spine-fins, the wear on them, as well as the water dripping off, is easily the best part of the pic.
The only complaint I have is about the fins on the upper arm. Assuming that the fins are supposed to be hydro-dynamic, shouldn't they be angled closer to the fins on the forearms? A they are they'd hit at an angle to the water flow. I'm pretty sure. Might be wrong though.
Anyways, great work as always!

Mata Nui guides me Thanks, glad you like it!
Yeah, kind of a bummer that BZP is down, I wanna show her off to all the people there!
As for your complaint: Remember the Skakdi originally never were elemental wielders and despite being a Skakdi of water, Rhow in her body is not really designed to be hydrodynamic. She's just standing in that storm because it looks cool
Besides, as with the sets, those fins are flexible so if she's swimming, they'll turn the right way anyway.
