Seriously though, instead of seeing this really as a reversal as you suggest...I see this as follows:
ARIEL: I got legs to be with you!
ERIC: I got a fin to be with you!
It's funny how now that it's a merman(<--if that's REALLY a word)tha title character is now COMPLETELY naked...and that's hilarious to me!

If this is the story, I think Triton will cause a storm that is even worse than the one Eric had to deal with while fighting Ursula as a human. After all, if he was upset with Ariel and she's just his favourite daughter, then who knows what will happen if it was his son and heir that's the one being in love with a human...
