Description This image is a composite of several images.
The Background image is from an actual photograph taken in 1879 At Ross Landing, while the train itself is a model a friend of mine built. The steam was added in photoshop as was proper photo emulsion for a wet plate negative, as well as dust, scratches and age spots.

Im guessing the model is Eureka & Palisade #4, the Eureka.

It's actually NPC #4 "Olema" modeled at about 1885 or so. There is actually an NPC herald on the tender that is faintly visible. When I made this image I adjusted the image to have the same tonal qualities of a Wet Plate negative in that it skews the color register like the real photographs back then would have. I wish I had a photo of the model in color still, sadly my friend lost this model in a house fire.
The locomotive model itself was a brown color (frame, drivers, pilot, wheels) with a varnished Ash (simulated) cab.

Added bonus: before I photoshopped this image, the locomotive and passenger cars were sitting on a patio table in my friend's backyard. The actual scene is from an authentic photograph.

E&P #4 is very similar and the only difference I can see is the stack. As it is in Sepia I can't see color differences.
