Evraen discretely reached for Kameilo’s wallet, strapped to her hip as they traversed the marshlands northwest of the galoa mountains. Unfortunately she flicked her dexterous monkey tail and brushed along his wing.

Surprised, Kameilo jolted around with a sour face.

”What are you doing?!” she exclaimed.

Evraen thought fast, but not very well, “T-There was a centipede on your...er, the back of your shorts and I was gonna-“

”You wouldn dare be so immature!” Kameilo asked checking her rear to be sure. “Wait, you weren’t trying to snatch my wallet were you?” She clutched her wallet, full of colorful jyps (the neako word for valuable quartz stones) and pulled it away.

Evraen put his wings behind his back. “My wing didn’t even touch your wallet, Kam. I mean, I’m sure it would look like that, but-“

Kameilo put her hands on her hips and faced the crow. “Tell me the truth.”

Evraen fidgeted as he was prone to do when nervous.

Kameilo was looking at him with more than anger, but with hurt eyes. Evraen felt a knot tighten in the middle of his belly. It was his conscience, and like an atrophied muscle, his conscious was hurting a lot from the strain.

He looked down at his talon feet and didn’t say anything, black feathers ruffling.

“Look, Evraen we’re a team. If you need anything or any help, I’m willing to give it to you, so long as it’s fair, but you just have to let me know. Okay?”

Evraen nodded sheepishly, forcing a difficult smile.

Kameilo, being an empathetic creature could tell he was sincere, and smiled kindly. “I know you have a hard time with this habit, but do I like you. And I know if you just try to do what’s right, you can. Trust me, the world will treat you a lot better if you do that. Can you try?”

Evraen nodded quickly. “Mhm.”

Kameilo smirked. “Promise?”

Evraen “Promise.”

”Not crossing your primaries? Or toes?”

”Nuh-uh,” Evraen promised, raspy voice going squeaky.

To Kameilo, Evraen looked too pitiful to yell at anymore.

”Good!”

Kameilo came forward and hugged him warmly.

Evraen jolted. Hugs made him feel uncomfortable, but for Kammy’s sake he went again with it, gingerly wrapping his wings around her back, feeling awkward.

Kameilo could tell Evraen wasn’t used to hugs and she giggled. “You got a lot to learn, little crow~” She said it a bit too playfully...

Evraen pulled away quickly as he felt something large with many spindly legs skittering up his spine.

”N-n-ny...Oo-Hoo!” He cawed as he brushed off a large harmless caterpillar on his shoulder. He clutched his feathery chest in relief.

Kameilo giggled, covering her muzzle with one hand. She felt mean, playing such a trick on him, even if it probably served him right.

I returned to an older idea I had of Evraen as a special guest in Kameilo’s adventures in Cri’ru (unlockable party member or such ).
