Question for you:Β  Do you use paint tool sai?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Fersax In reply to Shen-fn-Woo [2015-05-12 02:55:37 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I use it mainly to re-do the linearts, for the other stuff (colors, background) I use Photoshop.

Shen-fn-Woo In reply to Fersax [2015-05-12 04:03:24 +0000 UTC]

What are your (I guess) pen settings?Β  Linework is one of the things that I want to get better at.Β  No matter what I do, I can't seem to mimic the same kind of lines I see in other's drawings.Β  The only thing I can think of that they are doing that I am not, is drawing at a very high resolution.

Fersax In reply to Shen-fn-Woo [2015-05-12 05:05:43 +0000 UTC]

Well, I'm not sure if I'll be able to help you that much since I only use a mouse to ink and color these pics, and I noticed you are more of a pen tablet guy.

I mainly use the Line and Pressure tools that can be used on Linework Layers, I just pick a pen size that matches the sketch I'm working with and after redoing all the lines over the original I adjust the edges of the lines using the Pressure tool to simulate a "hand-drawn" line. This method has its shortcomings, for example, I haven't figured out a way to make lines with sharp curves, they still look round even if I reduce the pressure to very low levels, which makes things like hair look pretty weird. To ink these specific lines I use the Bezier Curve tool included in Photoshop.

(Excuse me if anything of this sounds confusing, english is not my first language)

Shen-fn-Woo In reply to Fersax [2015-05-12 14:14:35 +0000 UTC]

It all makes sense though.Β  Oh, and by the way, there is a way to make a curve sharp if you need to.Β  Just go to the edit settings, pick a point, and set it to sharp.

And yeah, I appreciate the help and all, but there's a problem with line layers in that they take too friggin long to work with, and tend to look artificial when used.Β  I guess you spend more time working with them, because it appears you've avoided that "artificial" look, but whenever I try it, that's what I get.Β  Guess I'll have to try something else.

Fersax In reply to Shen-fn-Woo [2015-05-13 05:28:44 +0000 UTC]

I had no idea you could do that, that's pretty cool. Still, the lines doesn't look as sharp as I need them to be but maybe I just need some practice. Thanks for the tip!

Yeah, it takes a lot of time to create a good lineart with these tools compared to other techniques (I guess that I got accustomed to taking my time with linearts when I just worked with Photoshop, I had a really weird inking method in which I could spend many days working on a single piece of work). Good luck in finding a more effective way to "ink" your pics.

I only help people that actually want to learn stuff.Β  I can't help someone who wants to just sit back and hear nice things all day.Β  Unfortunately, he's one of those people - or at least he defends others who think that way.Β  I'm pretty sure he wouldn't appreciate my feedback.

i'm always welcoming critics, as long as they are useful and not just pointless bashing... which he did.

Shen-fn-Woo In reply to Fersax [2015-05-12 14:27:00 +0000 UTC]

I'm a harsh critic, and he was being very overprotective of his butt buddy G10w.Β  I feel like it's not too much to ask for people who call themselves artists to at least draw something once in a while that isn't JUST to satisfy their dicks.Β  Which is a problem I often encounter in muscle girl artists, who seem to let their preference become more than just that, turning it into a wild fetish that's insatiably lusty.Β  This makes me a pretty unpopular guy in these communities, but I don't care.Β  I've seen too many good, or would be good artists turn into absolute shit (G10Ws one of them) because they let their indulgence take full control, and it makes me cringe to think what their personal lives are like, being surrounded with their artwork, and how other people will take it.Β

Long story short, he was being an enabler.Β  Anyone who enables must in some part have a problem themselves.Β  Criticizing doesn't help you just improve your artwork, it helps improve your content too.

Fersax In reply to Shen-fn-Woo [2015-05-13 05:40:08 +0000 UTC]

Well I think that's a common problem since most people consider these kind of works as "fetish art". I personally don't have nothing against g10w or bolorny (in fact, when I started coloring stuff, g10w was one of the artists I had most communication with) but I can see where you are coming from.

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. At first the pic was supposed to be lighter and I had to do many modifications to turn it into a 'night pic'.

As a night pic it certainly captures the faint light of the moon in the background. Curious, would you consider using this texture on the Clawdeen pictures?
