I was like Q? Really? And then I watched the spoiler and had a fangasm!
All those childhood memories of watching Star Trek with my family just came flooding back. I must have spent the next hour watching random Q clips on youtube.
The character he is known for is a perfect match for Discord, and he gets to act the exact same way which I find awesome! I much prefer the trickster villains to the just plain angsty ones.

Trickster villains are so much fun! his fluttershy moment stole the show. What were your theories about the current story arc? I'd love to hear them all!

First we should examine the riddle that Discord uses to taunt the ponies.
To retrieve your missing elements,

So in my opinion the entire labyrinth was just a red herring to distract the mane cast and split them up so that he could subvert their wills one by one. Does he have a plan other than just messing with ponies minds? Why even bother with this complex game if he was just going to take over Equestria with his power anyway? Do the ponies need the physical representations of the elements of harmony to activate them, or will they just manifest again when all the ponies are back in their right minds?
It also seems to me that Celestia has been far to complacent about the return of Discord, she led the fight against him the last time and she is pretty much a living deity, but now she is content to let a group of six ponies do the job? Something seems wrong with this picture, so I'm not putting it past her that she is actually behind this to some extent, some sort of friendship test for twilight.
It seems to me that the confusion itself is his plan, Discord is there to play a game with the ponies, only he's not really telling them what the game it. I'm not really sure where his plan is going, but I think he's just going to toss them the elements of harmony when he gets bored.
I really hope that he doesn't get turned to stone or banished, because I'd like to have him come back through every once in a while and stir up trouble, much like Q does in Star Trek.

They aren't trollestia. 
she was not present for her sister's rebirth either, but there was no indication she was ever captured. she also seemed rather nonchalant about hthe neverending darkness.
The elemnts are born from these characters. they turned into the ponies' cutiemarks, afterall. I think he was tryingto tel lthme they had the tools to defeat him all along.
the labyrinth was not a redherring. It was a test. He wanted to play with them and see how easily-corruptable they were. Again, this was the writers sayign that sometimes it's hard doing the right thing, but runnign from your problems is never the answer.
Well, he is discord. He doesn't wantto physically harm anyone. he just wants to cause mayhem. Clestia said he ruled tEquestria before she and Luna took over. this is much like the stories of the titans, or of Amaterasu.
My guess is he was something else before he became discord. The ponies will hlep him return to his previous self through the power of love, acceptance and understanding. Afterall, isn't wall any of us truly want?

Yes, so Twilight is going to either have to figure out how to use her reversed friends to defeat Discord, or figure out how to fix them first.
I guess the focus is on the mane six ponies, and having the neigh omnipotent ruler of the land step in to solve every problem would remove any point to the show, so having the ponies have to work together and such makes it much more fun.
And the elements being part of them makes much more sense, It would be awesome if the six ponies just started glowing and defeated him, in which case is he just distracting them so that they didn't try that, but even Celestia seems to think they need the trinkets for it to work.
I still would like to know if he has more of a goal than mayhem, but it does seem to work for the character. And you're right that just about every mythos has some kind of precursor race that had to be overthrown. Maybe there are more like him still out there!
Maybe there could be a whole lost civilization of discord like creatures! that would be rather awesome!

it would! he seems to be doing this kind of thing for attention, though. Much like children act mischievious in order to getothers to notice them. I'm certain there is more to him than the trickster he appears to be.

Oh? what are your theories? i'm guessing discord did it in order to ruin any chances they might have of ever using the elements of harmony against him. in turn, he has also created his own 5 ponies of the apocalypse. The scenes he showed them are true, but only because they are going to make those things come true.
Twilight sparkle's magic is the onyl tihng he cannot corrupt. She will have to create her own new team of ponies to combat not only discord, but her former friends. the Cutiemark crusaders started it, so they will most -likely have to finish it.
it's relaly shaping up to be an AMAZING season! i'd love to hear your thoughts on it, though

Thanks! Since the crazy rush of this pony a day week is over, I'll probably be cutting back on them. But they are also quick enough to do that I'll be slipping more in every once in a while.
