I see he would be more of misunderstood (like Edward Scissorhands, you could say).
One reason I can see Theseus becoming allies with Asterion is due to how hisΒ origin is a dark mirror of Theseusβ own. Both are half-human, with one being part beast and the other being part God. Both are princes who were born illegitimately to great queens. Both were born due to Poseidon's machinations (one born from Poseidon himself and the other born from one of Poseidon's creations). Both care for their families and want to do their lands right.

If (and when) Asterion were to learn that Theseus is the demi-God son of Poseidon, I can picture the minotaur would become even more determined to tame Theseus and break him in to being one his ideal slaves/servants; as a way of spiting Poseidon for the way he had him born.
It would not be the fact he was born he resents the sea God, but the the way he was born and why; the fact he was seemingly birthed from lust (not knowing if his parents, Pasiphae and the Cretan Bull, ever truly loved each other at all) and the fact he was born to be a punishment and a curse on Crete for his step-father's arrogance. That, and I would not be surprised if he would feel some jealousy towards Theseus who is loved by his people while Asterion is feared by his, that Theseus was born as a blessing to Attica, and how Theseus was loved by his step-father while Asterion was loathed and abused by his.

This make sense, like a real greek myth story. But I feel sorry for Minotaur. If Theseus successfully soothe him this well be aΒ different story.

One major issue I have always noted with the part of the story where Theseus is presented to the Minotaur/Asterion as one of his newest/latest slaves...is that it is never stated how long he stayed in Asterion's servitude or if they ever had any direct interactions before their big "confrontation". How long did Theseus stay a slave? Did he form close bonds with his fellow slaves? What were his duties as the Minotaur's servant? How did they come to see each other? Did Theseus get to see Asterion's humanity? These are all things I would have liked to know...
Most takes just focus on him finding his way to the Minotaur and defeating him. Shame, isn't it?Β
