The US military are still trying to find a replacement for the M4A1 as they overheat quickly. US special forces dropped it in favor for the HK416 which is far more reliable. A lot of US military don't want to change the format as has resulted in many canceled or rejected project rifles

So it looks like the HK416 will be the standard weapon then

for special forces yes, for regular army no. As the generals and other top officials argue on the rifles replacement as many rifle projects copied the M4 Β design and upgraded it but many still prefer the concept but it has a chronic heat problem
