Here's my Commission InfoA little background story for this painting:
Wanting to rule the kingdom all by herself, the King's daughter needed her father to be elimated, so she hired an assassin to do the dirty work.
However, the King discovered his drink was poisoned, he slowly poured it out in front of his daughter's eyes...

The soliloquy of King Théoden...
King of Rohan, Lord and First Mashall of the Mark, Lord of Rohan, Lord of the Rohirrim, Lord of the House of Eorl, Lord of the Golden House, Father of Horse-men, adoptive Father of Éowyn and Éomer.
"So much death. What can men do against such reckless hate?
[Théoden pours the poisoned wine from the goblet, watching Éowyn with sadness, anger and mistrust...]
Alas, that these evil days should be mine. The young perish and the old linger...
To whatever end...
[Later the Wizard, Gandalf the White, intervenes and exorcises King Théoden from the hypnotic shadow of his assistant, Gríma the Wormtongue]
Dark have been my dreams of late...
[to Gríma] Your leechcraft would have had me crawling on all fours like a beast!
We shall have peace... When you hang from a gibbit for the sport of your own crows...!
[As Gríma is carried away by the royal guards, King Théoden turns away and stares out from the window towards the open plains and grazing lands of Roham. He finally sighs, turns back, and then shakes his head as if trying to clear away decades of headache, confusion and mistrust from his mind.]
I know your face... Éowyn.
[Looks at her as if seeing her for the first time with new eyes.]
[Aragorn, the lost King of Gondor, reminds Théoden that Gondor calls for aid.]
[In response, Théoden unsheathes his sword Herugrim and gently caresses it.]
And Rohan will answer. Muster the Rohirrim. Assemble the army at Dunharrow. As many men as can be found.
[Turns to his adopted son and nephew Éomer] You have two days. On the third, we ride for Gondor... and war.
[Théoden rides onto the battlefield astride his horse Snowmane, with Éowyn, Éowyn and Merry (his Esquire and the Halfling Hobbit) at his side.]
[King Théoden gives an impromptu and impassioned speech to his troops.]
Let this be the hour when we draw swords together. Fell deeds awake. Now for wrath, now for ruin, and the red dawn. Forth, Eorlingas!
If this is to be our end, then I would have them make such an end, as to be worthy of remembrance.
[As he takes in the vast and awesoem sight of the massive armies facing each other, Théoden turns to talk to Éowyn]
So it begins...
[He catches her gazing longingly at Aragorn]
I am happy for you. He is an honorable man.
[As she shyly smiles at this remark with an embarassed and thrilled expression, Théoden gazes fondly and proudly at his niece, nay, his daughter, who stands there on the forefront the battlefield, like a born warrior and queen, commanding the respect and confidence of the troops.]
I have left instruction. The people are to follow your rule in my stead. Take up my seat in the Golden Hall. Long may you defend Edoras if the battle goes ill.
[Éowyn stares back at him with shock, confusion and a sudden fear, not for herself, but for him.]
[He smiles in understanding, and nods at her.]
I would have you smile again, not grieve for those whose time has come. You shall live to see these days renewed. No more despair.
[King Théoden spurs his horse and charges forward, as his followers and troops cheer wildly and ride after him.]
Forth, and fear no darkness! Arise! Arise, Riders of Theoden! Spears shall be shaken, shields shall be splintered! A sword day... a red day... ere the sun rises!
Ride now!... Ride now!... Ride! Ride to ruin and the world's ending!
[King Théoden and the Riders of Rohirrim charge into battle like a torrent unleashed, their war cry echoing and resounding across the entire battlefield.]
For death and glory! DEATH!"
