Aah, NOW I see why you are upset...

This film was supposed to be a mixture, really. A balance between what we are all familiar with from the Arthurian Tales (such as Le Morte d'Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory, perhaps the most famous story), and what we now know of the man whom the tales penned by authors such as Malory and Geoffrey of Monmouth may have actually been based upon.

Many sources point to one "Riothamus," a fifth-century ruler, the King of the Britons (or Bretons -- scholars still aren't sure which, due to uncertain translations).

>>from Britannia.com (concerning the letters of Sidonius Apollinaris, a fifth-century Roman official, who corresponded with Riothamus):

One of Sidonius' correspondents was a man named Riothamus, said by Jordanes, a sixth century historian of the period, to be "king of the Brittones." This Riothamus has been identified by some investigators (notably G. Ashe and L. Fleuriot) as the historical original for King Arthur, and the significance of this letter is that it places this "king of the Brittones" in Gaul in the early 470's, in the very time period when Geoffrey of Monmouth has Arthur's Gallic campaigns taking place.

I liked the film because of the fact that it was something new, and a little more factual, even if it was still heavily embellished. I've always wanted to see a film that portrayed Arthur in a setting that was closer to his "actual" time.

Idunno, I've probably rambled on long enough. Are you asleep yet?

Well I'm always looking to expand my understanding of the legends and the history behind it, so it's great to hear of an aspect I hadn't yet been aware of. But what I had always known was the story, in its many forms, always set in Britain, and to have gone in expecting one thing and getting something COMPLETELY different, it came as a bit of a shock to me hehe. But thanks for the background, it clarifies things quite a bit!
