Description

"CHAOS CONTROL!"

     In a bright flash of light so intense that it rivaled the sun, the Ark disappearance from it's collision course with the planet, leaving behind nothing but empty space. Moments later the station reappeared, once again in stable orbit, though with a lot more burns and missing parts than it had before.

     "HAH! We did it!" Sonic exclaimed, bright and cheerful as ever, Red-eyes glinting with triumph and excitement, even as his fur slowly changed back to its usual azure coloration. "Lets get back to the Ark. I don't think we can stay out here much longer!" he stated, but his bright smile faded at the silence, growing more and more concerned as he realized there wasn't a second golden glow next to him anymore. "Shadow...?" Turning around, Sonic's concerned frown quickly turned to wide-eyed terror at the sight before him.

     Shadow's white-gold super form had dulled considerably, multiple spots of fur and quills having already turned back their usual ebony hue, while bits of golden light had began to float away from his body, breaking apart into small little flecks of light. The hedgehog in question was beginning to fall backwards towards the planet, but he seemed almost unconcerned about his fall, ruby-red eyes glossed over and dazed with exhaustion. As more and more of the golden light retreated, green slashes and stains began to become visible once again, left over from his earlier battle with the Biolizard in the reactor core.

     "D-d*mn... I put too much energy in that chaos control..." Shadow thought, oddly calm as his decent towards the planet rapidly began to accelerate "guess this is the end. Without the inhibitors my body is just going to keep loosing chaos energy, regardless of how fast it can produce it..." beginning to feel the heat of the atmosphere, he closed his eyes, content to let gravity take control...

     ...until a white-gloved hand whipped out and grabbed onto his arm, ceasing his fall. Opening his eyes again, Shadow was met with the sight of Sonic, a relieved smile spread across the hero's face."what? you didn't think I was actually gonna let you fall, did ya?"

     However, despite the golden hero's cheer, Shadow simply sighed and shook his head, giving the other hedgehog a slight glare. "Faker, you and I both know you don't have the chaos energy left to get us both back" he growled, causing Sonic to take a look at his quills, seeing that some of them were already completely blue once again. Looking back at Shadow, he simply gave him a confident smirk. "nah, we'll be fine! I'm not letting ya fall, grouch-hog"

     Shadow closed his eyes once again, seemingly contemplating their current situation. He was quiet for quite some time, before he opened them again, ruby orbs meeting red-stained orange, the bio-hog wearing the most peaceful expression Sonic had ever seen on him.

     "Faker... no, Sonic..." he began, catching Sonic's attention immediately at the use of his actual name. "thank you, for... for helping me keep my promise... I know this isn't necessary, but please, keep Maria's promise for me... protect the planet so that... they can have a chance... to be happy... like she wished..." he muttered, Sonic's ears straining to pick up what he was saying, his voice growing weaker and weaker by the second. "and please, whatever you do... don't blame yourself..." he added, expression turning apologetic, as Sonic's twisted with confusion.

     "Blame myself for what..?" Sonic began to ask, but then, using the last of his strength, Shadow landed a solid punch on Sonic's face, making the blue blur loose his grip and go flying backwards. By the time he managed to stop toppling through space, it was already too late, Shadow's almost entirely ebony form being too far out of reach for him to grab onto again. Horrified, Sonic could just barely hear the ultimate lifeform's last words...

"Sayonara... Sonic... the Hedgehog..."

"SHADDOOOWWWWW!"

I just finished replaying SA2 again... I immediately drew/wrote this... XD

*aaaaannnggggssssstttt*

So, just a quick doodle/oneshot. had fun drawing and writing this... pretty much what happened in-between the final hazard's defeat and shadow's fall, since, ya know, I find it hard to believe that Sonic didn't even try to save him (we don't really know what happened before Shadow fell into the atmosphere, so its free to doodle/write for... XD)

(also I was listening to the theme for shadow and maria in SA2 when I wrote the fanfic part of this, so... XD)

I need to work on drawing Super forms more. this was surprisingly fun to attempt after the disaster that was Super hedgeswap... XD
