An idea that crossed my mind.
I thought the concept was interesting to try, nothing really more about it.
Working on different ambiance on the same thematic is a fun thing to do in my opinion.
Plus, I realized I find "horror" a lot more difficult to express with colours than "joy"!

so what could do is if you showed light scattering, using soft brush. When leaves are very close, it would cast the shadows you made, if they are farther, shadows become less edgy.
it is wave property of light, it comes at an object, and bounced off of the edges like a wave, so you get that gradient at the edges of the shadow
