The door remained open after the guard had left. An Intern with ear buds had been waiting to bring in replacement cadavers. The cadavers were small, short-lived Imps mass-produced by a giant, Greek urn his colleagues were unable to destroy.

Those things were useless, abnormal like all those the foundation fixated upon. Only common stock could yield heard immunity! But they kept shoveling the things into his laboratory expecting him to turn lead into gold!

The D-class who had thrown the cage during the earlier interview stumbled past into the cell. The man was so disoriented he knocked over one of the preserved creatures and shattered its jar of fluid. He seized the Doctor's coat. “Just do it! I take back everything I said! All things considered I’d rather be killed by you!”

The Doctor froze, partly because being technically naked made an unwarranted touch very upsetting and partly because he hadn’t expected to see this man ever again. Could his will now command the afflicted as well as the cured, or was this another miracle?

“Shhh, calm yourself.” He steadied the intruder and made him sit down.

Blood trickled from the man’s nose and the scratches on his arms.

“Hurry” the D-class said. “They’re under my skin!”

“It’s very bad I know, but I can fix this.” said the Doctor as kindly as he could muster. “For hundreds of years, I’ve done nothing else!”
