Description What's this? An actual art piece for once? Yeah, sorry, haven't really had much time to draw (besides doodling. And sadly, the only reason I did this piece was for a school project).
As for the story behind this piece, in my Literature class we read part of the story Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God by Jonathan Edwards. Original, the story was told in a Puritan church, and is arguably one of the most famous pieces of Puritan Literature. Now, not wanting to state any religious beliefs online (due to not wanting people to get in arguments, and wanting to keep my life a bit private) I'm not going to state whether I believe the story or not, but I will state that the entire premise of it was to scare the Puritans. I will admit, that even though Edwards seems like he was a pretty scary guy, he uses amazing figurative language and descriptive details to provoke fear and create haunting images. For that reason, my teacher made us draw a picture based on one of the quotes. In the right flame is the quote, but because it's kind of hard to read it, I'll write it here for you.

"There is Hell's wide gaping mouth open; and you have nothing to stand upon, nor anything to take hold of; there is nothing between you and Hell but the air; it is only by the power and mere pleasure of God that holds you up."
Based on this quote, I have the mouth with flames underneath the puppet (for obvious reasons, I think) along with the flames. The hand (probably the hardest thing that I've drawn in a while. Do you know how hard it is to draw a hand in such an awkward pose?) represents the hand of God, being a puppeteer, the strings represent his pleasure. As the strings break, the puppet (shown without a face to represent the fact that it could be anyone, despite the fact that I decided to make the puppet a girl) is slowly loosing it's life, and as it gets closer and closer to death, the yellow glow starts to fade, showing that their spirit is slowly dying. Also, the necklace is a chain (kind of hard to tell) just to represent being chained. And yeah, think what else you want to of it.

Pfft, scanners completely kill colors all the time.

Would really love feedback on this; thanks!

We read this in my class too! I thought it was amazing, actually, I read the entire thing without stopping. Unlike the previous stuff we've reading, where I zone out every few lines.....
Anyways this is certainly gorgeous, the concept and composition and everything is great! I'd just suggest outlining everything in black, for contrast. And if you're having problems with how your drawings come out with your scanner, you should try Photofiltre! It's my favorite free photo editing program ever

It was pretty good, wasn't it? I love the figurative language in it!

And, thank you so much! And that's a good idea! I think I might try that! And I'll see if I can try Photofiltre! It sounds very helpful!
