Description
Vivian was my favorite character in Thousand Year Door by virtue of her excellent design, adorable demeanor, and emotional growth. Her transformation from a victim of abuse into a self-confident young woman makes her easily one of the best characters in any of the Mario RPG games. But when I found out later that, in the original Japanese version, Vivian was actually a transgender girl, my love for her character grew even more. I was still dealing with my own questions about my gender identity, and knowing that one of my favorite childhood characters felt the same way I did was a wonderful feeling for me. Now that I'm being more proactive about sharing my artwork and trying to stand out among so many talented trans-artists, I can think of no better person to represent myself on DA.
And isn't she just the cutest? <3

Mm, it's a shame they redacted that in the western release, even though that's just the reality of how things were... and sadly still are to some extent.

Stylish is the best way to describe this. Nicely done. Her and bobbery are the best partners.

Thank you! I love all of the partners in TTYD myself, Vivian and Yoshi being my favorites.

You might want to do more research on that. Apparently, Vivian isn't a man in Japan. It's just that English is a literal language while Japanese is more figurative.

It's a point of contention for some people still, I think. But I think the Japanese Tattle logs on Vivian make it pretty clear their intention about her character and gender.
Ultimately it's a moot point; whether she was born female or identifies as one, fans still consider her a woman.

Thanks to the English translation, and other non-Japanese translations, no doubt.

Actually, only the English and German translations have the references to Vivian's gender removed. All of the others make it pretty clear that she was a born a man but considers herself a woman. The Mario Wiki lists a few sources detailing information about her gender identity. What I mean by saying it's a moot point is that fans either respect her wishes to be considered a woman, or they think she was always one. It's ultimately the same difference.
