This another of the previous image, but with slight color modification. I'm not sure if I want to go with more of a gray or brown. Her design is supposed to be silhouetted by this mud/dirt/tar substance, but I'm not sure that I want to go too dark.

I find the best thing about this character is his posture. It reminds me of the feeling you get, exhaling after holding your breath for too long, or relaxing your muscles after being tense without noticing.

He looks awfully comfortable.

Thank you! It's supposed to be a female, which is still something I'm working on showing rather than "telling". I would rather not resort to mammaries or some other cheap trick (EYELASHES!!) to imply that.

>: I'd hardly consider nature's "I'M FEMALE" sign to be a cheap trick.

True... On humans, specifically. Animals and creatures do not share the same constructions as humans, and I feel (strictly an opinion) that strapping human female anatomy onto something that is obviously not human is generally kind of cheap (and if done wrong, creeeepy). I mean sure it'd be different if this were an anthro story like Robin Hood. But that's not what I'm trying to go for. Snakes, amphibians, don't have mammaries, and most mammals don't get defined traits like that til' after they get pregnant. Which the main character does not get pregnant.

I didn't mean to imply that these actual traits are cheap, I was referring to artists who resort to eyelashes and breasts to define females even when they are doing creatures that wouldn't have them. Once again it's not a rule I strictly enforce or adhere, it's just not what I want to do in this story.

Sorry if that got a little too technical.

It appears that I have been learned. I concede to your point!

Ahh, she's cool. I like the grayer version best.
