looks good, its just that the layout of the top intake bugs me since in every other image I've seen, the sides of the intake mold into the fuselage

perhaps its a bit like the F-35, hard to tell the difference between the various versions?

F-35A is conventional.
F-35B is the STOVL version with the cold-lift fan with a rotating vector nozzle at the rear.
F-35C is naval carrier variant with longer and foldng wings for better fuel storage, as well as an arresting hook and strengthened landing gear.

So the ASF-X is also compared to F-35, except the Shinden's shape appears to be more unusual than I expected.

Each version would have different frames/differences that may not be visible on the surface. The Shinden itself is a forward swept-wing fighter with variable tail surfaces, and it has a tandem engine config, unlike the normal side by side engines.

Not only the Shinden that has its tandem twin engines, but British Electric Lightning also has its tandem twin engines, see this. cdn-www.airliners.net/aviation…

What I meant is that the design is rare. Very few planes have tandem engines.

Well, it is rare and yet, unusual.

I think it's because the way the engine feeds are, it's a bit more complex than to fuel two side by side engines. It might be viable later however, as technology progresses.
