Photoshop.
Make black bar, add the right amount of transparency. Type over the black box (honestly not sure what font that is), and voila.

Wow! I love this wallpaper. My only suggestion is slow the animation down a bit. Make it into a ambient / restful one. Everything else is perfect as-is. Well done!
