Focused more on the values here, and tried to figure out the lightning. Every painting is a learning experience for me, sometimes its very difficult to get things right and no matter how much I struggle to create a painting 80% of the time I can't even make the judgement if my work is good or not. I feel that way about this painting but I'm gonna put it out here and see what happens

Thank you, haha I prefer to sit in my room with the lights on, but a dark room with the tv on looks good on in a painting

I think you did a great job lighting the scene, I like the bluish hue from the Television off screen, her floor looks a bit bare but that just means she's more into vacuuming than I am really!
You probably already feel this way by the time you finished the painting but the dresser and mystery box being so perfectly square with the camera's POV looks a little bit unnatural, again certainly something that could indeed be how it is but would have benefited from a little "imperfection" like how you turned her chair a few degrees, or perhaps something on the floor in front of one/both of them to break up the pure horizontal lines they create?

I agree with everything you said, I should have played with the perspective of the box. Sometimes I get carried away with whats important for me in the piece and forget about what the viewers see in the painting and how they see it. The box has some notes on it but you can't read any because of the quality of the upload. Its kinda a play on the title because she might be reaching for the blanket to cover herself or to cover the notes where she might be expressing her feelings and she is in a way trying to hide her feelings by covering the box.

Nice, I was realizing she might just be cold and want the blanket as I hit "submit comment", I've never thought of taping something to the outside of a box as a means of keeping a secret before but with the right setup I guess it does make some sense, you've given me new insight into the way people may hide things at the very least, which is always interesting!
Yeah I couldn't make out the text on the notes I thought they were labels of some description at first, like when a crate is shipped from far away and landed in various shipping depots getting tagged a bunch before it's ultimate destination , your picture gave me flashbacks to the gremlins movies and how someone would have to makeshift some kind of light blocking cover for their little buddy to hang out in while they watched TV.
You've made an interesting piece in any case and I'm looking forward to whatever you do next!

Well it kinda can be interpreted both ways as I said, she could be trying to cover herself. I've been trying to work on paintings with double meanings for a while. The reason the notes are outside is because she is not hiding them form herself, we are in her room so she is covering them from us. It's a bit difficult to get this from the painting because of the quality that deviantart allows I guess, otherwise the text is visible enough for you to read. The notes contain lyrics from a song, mostly because I've been kinda in the mindset for my next project. It will consist of 12 paintings, I can't talk about it yet its about 20% done, hopefully it'll be done by the end of the year or early next year. Anyways I appreciate you taking the time to look into the painting and ask questions!
