Description
I tend to notice things and make connections that most people wouldn't.Maybe that isn't as true here, I'm sure a lot of you have caught on that there are a lot of Redhead's that inexplicably either work along with, or are rivals with someone who has black or dark hair. But if not, then here's a chart to show you all the one's that I could think of. lol
Now some of these are from American Television, and some of these are from Japanese animes. Since we're all deviant artists here, and likely very big nerds, I'm sure most of you will know who all of these characters are. So I'll leave it up to you to guess until someone wants me to make a list of them all. It's more fun that way.
Also, I didn't want to just keep this to female duos or rivals, so I threw in some trios that happen to all have the same patterns of hair color. Of course once you get to the trios it's almost inevitable that you'd have to design each of them with one of the main hair colors, but it's still interesting none-the-less that the leader is always the red-head, and the ditsier of the group is the one with blond hair.Β
I've recently dramatically updated this to include many more additions that I finally remembered. I also opened it up more to sets of characters that have one male character in the mix, because after a while that's what you start running into. So that's why you have Ranma, in his Female and Male forms, Laharl with Flonne and Etna from Disgaea, Milo with Nicky and Pepper Ann, and Fry with Leela. But all of the rest are entirely female duos and trios. And there are still many more I'm sure. I actually don't have any live-action pairings on this list, so there may be a few to add there as well.
Hope you enjoy this one, and I will be making similar charts and interesting informative artwork in the future.

That's Ranma from "Ranma 1/2." It's an anime about a guy who turns into a girl when he splashed with cold water, kind of like those toys that change color or that have things appear when you use hot and cold water on them. It's a really popular 80s/90s anime.

Alex isn't Latino. She's mixed, her dad is white and her mom is black. If you've seen enough episodes they show her parents a couple of times.

Oh, well I'm sorry, thanks for telling me that.
I haven't been able to watch a good amount of the show in a very long time, so some details I either don't remember, or I never caught on to. I don't ever remember seeing her dad. And when I saw her mom, I swore I thought she was supposed to be a very excited Latino woman, eager to match her daughter up with a guy.
I mean, it is awkward, but the whole show was kinda wrought with stereotypes. I mean the premise is three high-school girls who are always on the lookout for guys, become international spies with souped up go-go boots, and they battle angry fashionistas and evil cosmetics empires.

I have to say I really like how this looks. It's so starkly different from all your other stuff style wise that makes it just really stand out from a lot of what you've done in the past. I love just how cute and simple everyone is and that despite using the same head on all of them they still look incredibly different from one another.
The only thing I might say is to have changed the ears for AJ and Rarity at the bottom to be more pointy/horse like- unless you wanted them to look more humanized on purpose. In that case then no worries there~

See now, I knew you would call me out on something. I made sure to include Rarity's horn, but I had a feeling you or someone else would call me out on the ears.
Eh, it's cool. I mainly wanted this to be a modular picture where everyone starts form the same base form, and only the elements and colors on top of the base head changes. That way the point of the picture comes across more prominently. That being that these pairings are so similar to each other. If I had changed head shapes or ear shapes or anything else other than I did, then the point might get lost just slightly.
I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. I'm not against doing things in any style that will satisfy the concept the most. So that's why I conceived of this look.
I may do similar pictures with dudes or with entire cast of characters that are similar because they have similar personalities or they serve similar roles; like the nerd, the spaz, the smart kid, the bitchy blond girl, etc.

It certainly wasn't a big deal since there's been several humanized versions of them before, and with their skin colored as they are in the show you can definitely tell that it's them. I just wasn't sure if you wanted them to look like humans or not~ xD
It makes sense though, and it is still a very effective design choice in the end :D
