Description
This picture is based on a song by Sonata Arctica- "The boy who wanted to be a real puppet". Its about a boy whose greed to have a puppet is so great he threatens the puppet masters life who will not sell it for sentimental value. The boy then gets the puppet but is cursed and becomes it. Then all he craves is to be the master once more, finally cutting off the strings to free himself knowing it will kill him. Oh and the gold in the middle represents the heart of gold in the puppet which the boy desiresThis pictures of the boy once he has cut the strings and become slumped as a lifeless dummy forever. THe limbs are supposed to look odd, but its misproportioned in places. It uses oil pastels and the text is a quote from the song saying SOME THINGS CAN END WITH A WORD, THEY SAY... THIS ONLY ENDS WITH A SHARP KNIFE. For best results full view.

Actually, if you remember the song correctly, the boy wasn't cursed.
"'So this little boy..wants to be..a puppet..for real..'

It's literally singing on a boy that wanted to be a puppet. Thing is, he realized later that he had given away his life, and would do anything to get it back:
"It's so hard to remember my life,
the times before the show
'can I ever cut off the strings?'
'Take a bow, now dance and sing... Sing!'
'Would you turn me to child again?'
'No, never, I am your Guide.'
You can see a small grin on the face
Of the master, when the puppet's in his place."
So, he then warns everyone to be careful:
"Be careful of what you wish for
Wishes might come alive
The twines are pulling me every day and night...
The show, the glitter and all the fame
I'd give away for a life
Some things can end with a word, they say
This only ends with a sharp knife. Knife!"
And he couldn't take it anymore. He killed himself. And it all happened because he realized he didn't just WANT the puppet, he wanted to BE the puppet. -nods assuringly-

Ahhh I see. When I wrote this I just remebered him initially wanting the doll off the master who wouldn't sell, i always assumed the master knew what would happen "greed is truly blinder than me" but he didn't. Thinking about though you're right. Hmmm. I guess even genius's get it wrong *displays lots of modesty* lol. Still I got the part about suicide right- thats the impotant bit

Hey it's no problem. I listen to that song all the time though, and I thought I should correct you. If you're going to redo the picture, try doing a regular drawing and color it. Or shade it. I'd rather shade than color actually. I myself am an artist. I just don't have anything up yet because 1) I don't have a scanner and 2) the cord that plugs the camera into the computer has been missing since the beginning of summer. My friend just got a scanner though, so I'll be happy to go over to her place and use it for awhile. I've drawn things for Sonata Arctica too, like Wildfire; White Pearl, Black Oceans; and Misplaced. I'd be happy to show you some ideas if I can..

Yh I know its weird I listen to that song loads, I just didn't really consider the lyrics untill I drew. Yh I think I will redo it, i have started drawing normal people now, Something I avoided for a hell of a long time, and found I could actually do which is even weirder. I would do a shaded drawing because its what I'm best at, colour doesn't seem to work for me unless i have to use it, I was experimenting with oils at the time. I only got a scanner recently, I was using my friends too.
Sure I'd love to see your ideas, I have it in mind to do san sebastain and Abondonedm pleased... as well. Sonatas songs make such good pictures, or maybe its just power metal in general, I have ideas for other bands

I just think their songs give extremely good inspiration..Especially White Pearl, Black Oceans. Yepyep. Heheh.^.^
