Those rock formations do look very familiar. Hey, you like to check out Arizona sometimes don't you? Ever been to Quartzsite? Right now, there are about 1600 people who live there. By the middle of December, there will be about 2 1/2 million people there. It is a huge gem show/flea market. The entire town is transformed. When my Sweetie and I visited that area we stayed just out of town in a place called Lapaz Valley. Beautiful desert and away from all of the people. I have spent a lot of time at this place......very powerful area.
You could get all kinds of amazing and interesting shots.

There are no mountains out there, my Friend, that I remember. I think you must be talking about a different Lapaz valley.Β This area you could miss if you blinked your eye. It is about 10 miles south of Quartzsite, AZ. This area is only about 800 ft altitude. There is an arroyo (wash) but no mountains...ha ha.....This is part of the Sonora Desert.
The Kofa Nat'l Wildlife Refuge is in Yuma isn't it? That's about as far south as you can get without going into Mexico. I always went through there to go to Algadones, Mexico to see the dentist, in the 'old days.' I don't know if people can still do that or not.
Quartzsite is about two hours north of Yuma.

Castle Dome Mtns....on the east side of Hwy. 95.Β I was just south of LaPaz Valley on 95...took this pic looking east.Β Me thinks you had too many cervazes!Β haha just kiddingΒ
Lots of folks still crossing into Mexico for dentistry.Β I was camped out west of Yuma & that whole crowd was there for that...

There's a varin-maeus mermaid up on the rocks watching the people - what will she do?

I have not seen anything from Matt Yost aka varin-maeus for a long time. His blogspot has not been updated since 2014 but his ebay store seems somewhat active

The art on the ebay store is all stuff I have not seen before. But then, I have C.R.S. [Can't Remember Stuff]
I remember checking out someone that you recommended but do not remember who it was.
