The picture of the girl , kneeling near the ground, tells a story of a woman mourning a loved one. When I was a sophmore in college, I wrote a ballad type thing, called Susanna. It tells about the wife of a seaman. News of a storm, then debris washing up on the shore, is cause for the wife to wail/weep--on bended knee. A tavern owner appears out of the darkness and informs the young wife that her husband missed the ship to sea. "In the tavern, he doth sleep, he's as drunken as can be. Take my hand, get up from the sand. Susanna come home with me."
