Description This was an early test, done several years ago when I was first learning Flash. I wanted to see how close I could come to a scene from a cartoon, and just happened to pick this.

It's a bit rough compared to the original, but it helped prove to me that I could animate well enough with Flash. I think this was done all with pencil lines, which I seldom use now. The background was my recreation of the secret club house.

Did you trace this? Or is it legit?

I didn't rebuild it from scratch. I used a clip of the scene as reference and broke the drawings into different layers-Body, eyes, nose. It was semi-traced, but the main purpose was to see if Flash could handle the frame rate with parts actually animating instead of tweening symbols. It was when I first got Flash, but hadn't yet seen anyone do frame by frame animation with it.

I figured if it could handle this, it would suitable to work with.

Ahhh, it's amazing. Looks a lot like the original. I need to get that Preston Blair book, I really want to learn animation.

The Preston Blair book is good for design & construction studies, but I'm not sure how much animation it covers. I've never had the book though, I've just seen the pages that are online. John K's lessons are very instructive and helpful as well.

That was another reason I did this, to study the timing by redrawing each frame.
