Part 2 - [link]Someone on my doll tumblr asked me the other day about tooling tutorials, and where they might find some in order to start learning to tool.
I went hunting for some and realised that all the tool tutorials are TERRIBLY out of date, using techniques I wouldn't be sharing anymore.
So I thought it about time I created a tutorial on the basics of Tooling.
I actually use a lot of digital painting techniques, so I advise just reading any digital painting tutorial with an outcome you like and trying to see if it might work in dolling.
Most of my time in tooling is spent trying out new things with the attitude "I wonder if this works on a doll".
There will be actual dolling in the next part! Until then you have to be satisfied with the stickman in purple shoesies.

This one Is a video showing blending so you can watch how it works. This is the method I use.

This is a nice tutorial! But I don't understand what you're doing to blend the colors together like that. When I use the blend tool, it tends to erase half of the color blot with it, while yours has this gradual blending and the circle is still intact... Could you possible post a pic of your tool settings, aside from the brush? Or are you using something else entirely to blend the colors? (This is why I actually like wordy tutorials. If I'm just going off of a few pictures, I really can't tell if I'm following it right or not.)

no you just use the brush set to opacity.

There's a gimp tutorial in the DDs yesterday. It's basics going over all the tools. Tis in my favs. Check that out too.
I still read tutorials compulsively. They're not always useful but sometimes you pick up a tip or two. 
I had a tutor say once that no one knows everything about photoshop (in this case GIMP) but the magic as an artist is trying to find out.

I can't stand wordy tutorials, so I try not to make them. To keep people interested and actually teach it's best not to information overload, simply show the tutorial, not tell it. We're visual artists after all.
