Rollo from History Channel's Vikings
What started as a supposed quick study in colour and likeness waiting for season 3 to begin in Feb 2015 somehow got wayyyy out of hand. Though if something is going to get out of hand there are worse things to do with your time than make 7 portraits.

Hey there, let me just start off by complimenting you on the whole series of drawings you made about the Vikings already! Great job and dedication, so kudos to you!
Now, I like how you used a tint in your artwork rather than the normal "studio colours" and that gives a bit more of a realistic feeling towards the piece in my opinion. What I also like is how you kept the drawing rough in execution, yet you can make out some pretty fine details and distinguishing features.
The reason why I gave you 5 stars on your originality is because this isn't the stereotypical picture of Rollo you see appearing quite a lot. This feels more like a shot that just happened instead of being nice and well-positioned (if you catch my drift).
So, yeah, in conclusion I really have quite some respect for you since this is a nice piece of art which manages to transfer a good vibe onto me because of its great execution.
Keep up the great work and I hope to see more of you in the future!

These were all started as just studies in colour but pushing the boundaries of what is "realistic" colour, I never intended to refine them even to the point I did. But you are right I stopped much rougher with Rollo cos it just didn't feel right to refine to the extent I did Floki and Auslag and Siggy. Also considering the shot I used was from just post battle I really didn't want to stop and have him all refined and polished it would ruin his character a little.

Well considering whenever I was bored and braindead in the last 18 months I worked a little on these 7... I'm gonna need a new outlet. Can't promise it won't also take 18 months mind... XD
