I'm actually considering repainting this as I've grown tired of the green color. I"m thinking more whites and blues instead.

Wow! Thanks! You have a lovely collection of torsos! They are gorgeous with all their textures and the stains make them stand out so well.

Thank you .. but I cannot sculpt and have to use moulds.

'Fish Woman' is stunning. Good luck with the contest

Don't feel bad. I used a mold of my own face to create fish woman, the rest I built by hand. And thank you so much!

Amazing...

Very nice ! Your kiln must be quite big - or how do you "bake" life-size sculptures like this ?

Well I did it at the college where they have one of those large kilns. Basically I had two guys carefully place her in the kiln (she was resting on a flat board) and we just left the wood in the kiln. It burned up thus leaving my sculpture relatively unscathed. (her wrist and part of her crest broke but I managed to repair them both)

I would love to do a life-size sculptures myself...but I guess Stoneware itΒ΄s to heavy. And of course, I have no kiln at this size...

Surely you have more expert knowledge than I, so maybe you could give me an advice ?! So, what do you think ? Which else material would be suitable for a sculpture at this size ?

Well paper clay is about 1/3 if not half the weight of stoneware. You can buy paper clay or find a recipe online for it. Basically it's clay infused with paper pulp and it's actually an amazing clay body. It's able to be rolled paper thin and you can attach wet pieces to bone dry clay! It's really cool.

My other suggestion if you have a smaller kiln and want to build big is to build your figure in sections. This is something I haven't mastered yet since it's hard to get the measurements of the pieces correct AND I frankly don't have room for such sizes. BUT many ceramic artists do this when large kilns are not available.

Sound very interesting...

I was surfing throug the internet and found quite a lot of interesting infos about it - and I think these could be the right stuff for me...!

Well, now I only have to find a suitable recept...because I will need a lot (really a lot !) of it...

She is just short of life size. Probably the size of a Jr High kid. I have her in my living room now.

And thank you so much
