History: Riley had a pretty normal childhood, in all honesty. He was the only son of a professional Pokemon photographer and a housewife, and even though his father's job took him all over Unova the man always made sure to come back home to spend time with his family. Unfortunately, an accident in Mistralton Cave when Riley was 6 left meant that he would never see his father again. His mother took the news relatively well, as she was a resourceful woman and still had a young son to care for and therefore little time to spend wallowing in misery.

Soon after, his mother met a businessman from Castelia who helped her set up a jewelry store, noting some of the trinkets that she had made in her spare time. One thing led to another and soon enough they were married, and Riley got himself a younger half-brother by the name of Timothy. His new father was pretty cool even though he had no Pokemon, even waking up early for what would become Saturday morning board game rituals.

Riley set off on his Pokemon journey at age 11 after receiving an Eevee from his childhood playmates' family, who were breeders. After making it to Nimbasa and gaining the Bolt Badge after his battle with Elesa, he decided he was bored with this badge business and skipped back home after thoroughly enjoying himself at the amusement park. He had scarcely spent a week at home when his mother kicked him off to school, and seeing no reason to decline a change of pace with schooling, Riley was spirited off to a school in Castelia thanks to his stepfather's connections.

Upon graduating, with his mother's original store having expanded into a decent chain, he balanced work at at a Castelia branch with various other part-time jobs until a recruitment poster for a lab in Lacunosa caught his attention. Deciding it to be an interesting venture, Riley sent off his applications, and has been working there ever since.

Character: Seemingly carefree in everything he does, Riley is a man who is dictated by his whims, along with the phrase "the more the merrier." So when his whims strike, everyone feels it, whether it be everyone being made to buy a pie during lunch break or calling the entire team out for "fieldwork" at 4:30 am (when really all he wanted to do was frolic in the meadows and watch the sunrise). However, he is a serious worker and can be counted on to get all his reports handed in on time. In this way he's got a "work hard, play (extra) hard" mentality.

Even during the short time when he was attempting for the Unovan League, Riley had no excessive interest in battling. As a result he is incredibly lax with his training, and it more or less consists of setting up targets and letting those who are inclined to train self-study. Nowadays his interest in battling has grown a wee bit, but only because he's forever on the lookout for more research data. He's got an eye for detail and an impressive memory to boot, able to recall small things and use them in some way or another.

Doesn't really bother with things that don't manage to catch his interest--they tend to be treated as if they don't even exist. Things that do catch his attention, though, he pursues relentlessly, and you'll be hard-pressed for a method to get rid of him.

Riley's starter, he received the serious little Eevee from the grandfather of his close childhood friends. Although initially not impressed with his new trainer, finding every opportunity to dart off and stubbornly sit a little ways away from him, over the years they have evolved into a close partnership. Kane is frequently seen on Riley's shoulders, and though he is almost always silent, the Umbreon has keen senses and not a many things slip under his watchful eyes unnoticed.

FABLE --- Female Volcarona

A sweetheart, Fable also responds to "Princess," as that is what Riley's mother tends to call her when at home. Although she prefers not to battle, opting instead to devote her time to warm and fluffy snuggles, when asked to go into battle she doesn't leave much of anything to be desired. Always aiming to please, Fable prefers to astound with her dances and then hit hard and finish everything in one or two shots. Fable is grace, beauty, and power, and she'll not have you disagree.

TRISHA --- Female Dragonair (shiny)

Trisha actually belonged to Riley's father, and when the man passed away in an unfortunate accident in Mistralton Cave, the Dragonair went missing for a very long time. In fact, Riley only received the dragon's Pokeball in the male from his uncle a little more than a year ago. They still managed to form a bond rather quickly, though, as Trisha remembers when Riley was just a child and there were many father-son-dragon adventures. She is rather motherly, and more than willing to babysit anything that even remotely looks like it needs babysitting.

Trivia:
- Works in the same lab as Rino
- He's not even sure where his Badge Case is, actually. Probably in the attic collecting dust--he knows he brought it home, at least.
- As Riley had a (surprisingly) petite frame when he was a youngster, his mother tended to use him to help her model her pieces. As a result, he's got all those piercings on his ears and has developed a sharp eye for analyzing shinies.
- Sometimes he still wears some of her pieces because they are pretty and he'd like to see someone stop him.
- The scars on his arm were caused by his temperamental Haxorus when it first evolved. Although Riley can still use his arm like normal, he cannot spend extensive times working on his computer because it still hurts occasionally.
- That Oval Stone was a craft he did with his father at the summer fair before he passed away. Riley takes it everywhere--it's like a good luck charm.
- Riley doesn't know a thing about Dream World. He's... pretty sure it sounds like something his little brother used to watch on TV.
