Put in scraps due to still being a WIP & plan on improving/redoing.

While researching various designs over the years from the comics, the cartoons, & even the games, along with a few various pieces of fan artwork, I've dreamed of creating an "ultimate" design (hence the name "Project: Ultimate") that is virtually the best of thrown into a blender & this is the result.

However, Tyson Hesse may have done that while I was doing so & this is his result (which acts as inspiration for my soon-to-be-redone concept): twitter.com/tyson_hesse/status…

For the quills on the aforementioned pieces of artwork, I've wanted to find a way to make the quills' shape to reflect on his iconic design while retaining elements of various designs from the media (cartoons, comics, games, etc.), including the concept art Naoto Oshima made of the character prior to the redesign as seen here: i1.wp.com/www.seganerds.com/wp…

For the shapes of the mouth muzzle & even the eyes, I've always liked the American box art (mainly since I grew up with that & that was all I had at that time) but that never meant I didn't like the Japanese box art. The cartoon designs all have their own unique designs but I wanted to combine the best of both worlds. While frustrating to imagine all that (including the aforementioned & later features), the answer came in this fan-made 3D Classic Sonic render (again, acts as inspiration for the design): www.deviantart.com/fentonxd/ar…

For the shoes, I was aware that people adored the SA2 "Soap" shoes but I also wanted to find a way to retain the classic & iconic look & feel of his shoes that he had since 1991, including the "updated" design he had since 1998/1999. The answer came from an issue from the now-cancelled Archie Sonic's "Mobius 25 Years Later" from Sonic's future son's shoes (albeit minus the extra golden "circles" & the golden color on the soles) seen here: 2.bp.blogspot.com/-B0DWe2kE3wU… (yes, the infamous story written by Ken Penders)

Strangely, the shoe is the very first thing I drew/sketched for Sonic's design for "Project: Ultimate" & you can find the result of the aforementioned idea for the shoe right here: www.deviantart.com/firebirdpho…

The proportions are the hardest to get right; to make him look "balanced" while having him look like he can run fast while also capable of curling up into a ball at a moment's notice.

In terms of personality, I imagine it would be a "best of" mix of the three main or at least most well-known continuities (Japanese, American, & European).

"Project: Ultimate" is supposed to create the "ultimate" designs for various characters & even other objects if possible. I want for fans to take a look a single look at this design & instantly be reminded of their preference. I know that cultures in Japan, the US, & Europe (mainly in the UK) have different cultures, but instead of culture clashes, why not try to have all three for the price of one? Say, an "international" design that could cater to all if possible? Crazy idea, I know. But it might just work.
