My Christmas card picture for this year. It's my first approach to an idea I've had for years, and I want to do more with. I also entered it in a magazine contest, but it didn't win. I'm not even sure it got properly submitted, since something was wrong with the email address they said to send it to.

Since I did this all early for the contest, I was thinking, "Okay now that my Card image is out of the way, I'll have plenty of time for Christmas fanart!" But then, I had to decide to do a coloring book. Of the whole. liturgical. calender. So yeah.

I can't believe it's already so close to Christmas! Merry merry!

Great concept! I really learned, while reading one of Dr. Brant Pitre's books, that the tradition of elevating the Host is inspired by the Jewish priests of the Temple, who would regularly raise up the Bread of the Face/Presence and its table and say something akin to 'behold the face of God'. I found that quite interesting.

Goodness! I guess the Eucharist was probably prefigured in more ways than we know.

Yes! If you would like to learn more, the book I mentioned is 'Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist' by Brant Pitre.

Featured your lovely Nativity art: Is Today Too Early?Today. What will I do today that I postponed yesterday, and all the days before that? What do we find brings us lasting joy? Is it what we're given, or what we've done with it, that makes for fulfilment? What will I postpone today, because it's not truly important, in looking back, as things I think I have no time for, because I fail to make time for what actually does matter? This is what we forget most as we scramble frantically through life, and sometimes--no, on a regular basis--we need to slow down and take stock, rearrange our priorities, and reorient our steps in the proper direction. After today's feature, I'll do two more this size, then switch to less frequent ones with more works by the same artist, in order to devote more time to creating art, than collecting and sharing others. I'm also attempting to lose weight, so I'll be sharing that progress in the "Poll" section. As always, enjoy the wonderful art and music video at the end, God bless you all, and thank you so Have a blessed day! -Debra

This is so beautiful. It's the blue around the Infant that is so striking. And then to see the one who is holding HIm up is a priest in his Mass vestments--wow, fabulous! I think this should have won the contest, hands down.Β

May God bless you for using your talent to honor Him.

Sincerely,
Georgette

I have actually meditated on the connection between the nativity and the Mass many times. So glad someone finally put it into picture form!

Uh huh, the connection is quite--having trouble putting it into words--radiant, so I've wanted to portray it for a long time. Thank you very much!

this has a lot of good shapes in it. I mean the symmetry is on point and the framing is cool, but even little touches like those twisting bits at the base of the cradle are cool too. Good job.

Sad. . . I actually entered something into a Christmas Contest too, but I realized later that my email never went through >_< It was a sad realization...

Ahh, but this is a really pretty picture in its own right. I really love the crown of stars!! As most of the others seemingly did as well from the comments, haha The other details I really like is the texture of the manger/stable, and the depth of the faces. The image itself is just really well composed Nice work!!

And someone else I know had trouble with the same contest I tried to enter! Seems they didn't go well in general.

Thank you! Since I realized water ripples go in a curved grid I've been seeing them in more and more things, and I think they might be part of the fabric of the universe, so it seemed fitting.

AGH. I loved this when I first saw it in my inbox, and I loved even more on further inspection. I know probably everyone has said this, but I really, REALLY love that star halo thing that you did. And the little Eucharistic lamp on the side that let's you know that Jesus is "at home", and the face that the manger looks like an altar, and the little drip of blood on the blanket and event he fact that the priest is faceless and generic and yet "is" Jesus because Jesus is held right up in front of him and he takes on Jesus. And all the rest of the ridiculously awesome Eucharistic symbolism that you did.

Thank you very much! Yes, that's just it! I try to make every picture I draw with Christ somehow Eucharistic, and this is, I think, one of my strongest ideas for that. Thanks thanks!

When the angels had left them, and gone back into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, Come, let us make our way to Bethlehem, and see for ourselves this happening which God has made known to us. 16 And so they went with all haste, and found Mary and Joseph there, with the child lying in the manger. 17 On seeing him, they discovered the truth of what had been told them about this child.

I like it ... especially the cobalt blue stars arranged in a halo-esque shape around the infant Jesus' head.

Very cool.

I'd like to see you expand on just that portion of the image in a future piece of artwork, as I think it has a lot of visual appeal (i.e. focus on a solo image of Jesus with the blue stars behind him).
