Description
Lore & Design ConceptThis costume was created out of my comic-con depression. You can read my depressing progress HERE
It has been 5 years since my sister, Mary and I have done a photo shoot together. Both of us have grown in our fields of expertise, Mary as a photographer and myself as a costume designer. It was exciting to plan another shoot like the ones we did when we first started years ago. Only this time around we are bringing years of experience to our collaborative effort. Although both of us have developed a different style, working together came effortlessly. Our thought processes are very similar so we hardly needed to communicate to bring our ideas to light. Mary found the perfect graveyard with tombstones and mausoleums dating around early 1800's. She asked her friends; Stylist, Myra Truong, Lighting Technician Samuel Mongeon, and Scientist Matt Kardash to assist with the photoshoot.
For this shoot we went for two different styles. The day shoot being a classical rococo graveyard scene then transforming at night into a surreal nightmare. In order to achieve these two looks we switched up both the costume styling and photographic methods. The necklace is by the amazing jewelry designer Bionic Unicorn !
Working with Mary was a breath of fresh air and a bit nostalgic. We have both come a long ways from taking photos in our parents back yard.

I'm kind of envious you can make a costume 'on the fly' so to speak, wish I had more drive to do that. It's probably been asked before, but do you make your own lace? I love how it always compliments your pieces, as well as the dye work

I LOVE how you made the lips so pale. When I was looking through the photos, I was trying to put my finger on what exactly so... strange... about the outfit, then I realized. It's really the lips that give it that... disturbing kind of sense.

I find if you put all the emphasis on the eyes it makes it look a little more doll like I covered my lips with white eyeshadow

I agree! It kind of makes you look porcelain when your face is all washed out like that, but your eyes just pop out.

I have to say everything EXCEPT your expression is amazing. It is black soulless and chilling. The outfit implies love and caring, while your face and eyes belittle that message to a rather unnerving point. As you said that the topic is more along the lines of morning i did not get that at all from the picture. I got a more sadistic and cruel feeling. Your expression ruined it, in my honest opinion. The eyes say "I WILL KILL YOU!" not sorrow or compassion.
